Walter Koenig Needs Your Help
« on: January 08, 2008, 08:18:34 AM »
Time Running Out - Help Walter Koenig Now!

Last year we asked all our fans to contact Johnny Grant in Hollywood so that Walter Koenig, the actor who has portrayed Pavel Chekov for the entire 40-plus year history of the Star Trek franchise, could get a much deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Walter is currently the only member of the original bridge crew from the classic Star Trek series and films to not have his own star on the boulevard. Besides being an actor the veteran entertainer has chalked up recognition as a producer, director and writer.

After a strong campaign Walter still does not have a star. He was turned down on the first round of nominations. We only get one more try between now and June 2008. If we are unsuccessful during this time then his chances are over. This would be a great injustice to a man who has given so much of the world over four decades of great entertainment as well as working so hard over the years lending his name, person and talent to many worthy and charitable causes, most recently his work with Burmese refugees.

It’s time for one huge major push to get Walter that star so that he can have his place on The Hollywood Walk of Fame as is befitting his long and successful career.

Please write to:

Johnny Grant
ChairmanWalk of Fame Committee
c/o Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
7018 Hollywood Boulevard, 2nd Floor
Hollywood, CA 90028

Be sure to mention Walter’s worthiness for the star as a great entertainer and tireless humanitarian.

The letter must go through the regular postal system as emails are not accepted for consideration.

Wow....I wonder why he still hasn't gotten anything.  I mean, the guy has done quite a bit beyond Star Trek....and there are some actors who do a lot less and still get a star....

I'll see what I can do Kenny!

Someone told me most people now-a-days have their stars purchased for them by a benefactor or something. I'm not sure that's true but there have been some undeserving individuals who have gained stars on the Walk of Fame. If Vanna White, Britney Spears  and Kermit The FROG can get a start on the Walk of Fame... WHY in the world wouldn't Walter Koenig have one?! So stupid. It sounds like someone/some group is being bias.

I got this from Wiki...

In order for a person to get a star on the Walk of Fame, he or she must agree to attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection, and a $25,000 fee must be paid to the Trust for costs such as security at the star ceremony; a 2003 FOX News story noted that the fee is typically paid by sponsors such as film studios and record companies, as part of the publicity for a release with which the honoree is involved. On other occasions, the fee is paid by a fan club or the nominating person or organization.

BTW Jen I agree with Vanna White and Britney Spears but have to disagree with Kermit the Frog.. that one was well deserved.

Yes.. Kermit needs a star. I agree... But he's a puppet. If they can give a puppet a star they can give one to a well deserved actor. That was my point.  :D  ;)

Wow....$25,000 for a star.  Thats rather lame.  But I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Here's a couple more questions for you Kenny, as I'm not sure how this works. Why does he only have one more year to try for the star? Is there a limit to the number of times he can submit an application for consideration? And do these people who make the decisions pocket the 25K ap fee whether you're "granted the honor" or not?
