I was just wondering if anyone insures their collection? Every year at comic con I pick up collectable insurance form but never fill it out. This is the place that hands out the forms http://www.collectinsure.com/

Does any of the collectors have insurance.. if so what kind and is it worth it?

thanks,
Kenny

I've thought it about it a few times but have never done it.  I have a fairly good inventory system and have heard normal insurance covers things pretty well.  Plus I can't see a thief bothering with picking up replica lightsabers and phasers.  However, something like a fire would be another story.  Anyone else out there have thoughts on this?

Speaking from the point of view of using insurance right now, call your agent or company and ask them what they cover already.  That answers a lot, then you know if you need any more.  It's definetley worth the check up.

I thought that if you have everything inventoried with a video and pictures, your house insurance should cover it?
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

In general - yes.  However insurance companies generally have limits on the total amount covered.  For example, our home policy has a value to cover the house and a value for the contents.  So if you have a very large and expensive collection it might not cover it all if a big catastrophe were to happen.

I think for me, I would be most concerned about my Props Replicas and some of the higer end items which are over 40 dollars a piece. The toys might be hard to claim, since it is tough to determine how much they are worth, and more often then not, worth less then what I paid for. Probably good idea for me to make a list of the higher end pieces in my collection at least. My Star Wars toys might not be worth the effort, and probably would not get much for those anyways.
