Here's a new International movie poster

Darth Gaos

So that is Storm Shadow, Baroness and ......?  Destro and Cobra Commander?

Looks cool.....Can't wait until August.

Cool poster, but I am very skeptical about this movie. I was a big GI Joe fan as a kid, but the previews I have seen have looked like a very generic over the top action movie, like xXx or anything Michael Bay makes. Loaded with lots of explosions, but with no real characters. totally hollow and forgettable.

Although I do like the casting job they did for Destro, Cobra Commander and Heavy Duty!

My only question with this is as follows: What are we expecting here?

People keep saying this is going to be a generic action movie, not have deep characters, etc. I don't know which GI Joe people watched when they were younger. But mine didn't concentrate on deeply developing characters. It was about stopping Cobra from getting the heavy water to refuel their weather dominator.

Sure there were a few character episodes, but overall it was a pretty generic action cartoon. If that's what this movie is, then it's paying homage to the original which, let's be serious here, was created as a vehicle to sell us action figures.

I agree, but I am not 7 years old anymore and if I am watching a live action movie I want it to be a good movie.

Paramount, which has been facing some tough challenges at the box office this year, is facing one of its biggest ones with the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which is due to be released on Aug. 7. USA Today reported today (Wednesday) that buzz surrounding the film has been brutal, with fans complaining loudly at what the studio offered in its trailers for the movie. "The script was hurried into production to beat the writers' strike last year, which may account for some of the troubles," the newspaper observed. Alex Billington of FirstShowing.net suggests that the studio's efforts to protect the movie may have achieved the opposite result. For example, it will only be shown to critics next week, just days before its release. "Never a good sign," he remarked. Billington said that every time he mentioned the movie on his blog, "the comments would fill up with people already saying, 'This looks like the worst movie of the year.'"

I don't know if the movie will be any good but the series is being released on DVD and the 1st volume is a lot of fun. Just thought I'd say. :)

While it's not the Joe that I remember, Joe has been constantly reinvented over the years with only the character names staying the same. From what I have seen of the trailer, I think I'll be seeing it at the theater. I like the sci-fi elements and I think that if it didn't have that, it would be just another action/war movie with names we remember from childhood and no real hook.

Paramount has had a GREAT year.  Bigger than any studio.  A couple of little films called: "Star Trek" and "Transformers" have made them over a billion dollars.  Seems pretty good to me.

I'm not expecting Citizen Kane here. As long as things blow up real good the movie can't be all that bad.

Geekyfanboy

Yeah I was never a fan of G.I. Joe but the movie looks action packed with cool special effects.. I plan on seeing it.

SPOCKFAN

I personally have never cared for Citizen Kane myself. What I expect is to be entertained with quality entertainment when I go to the movies.  I hate when people say what do you expect, its just a comic book movie, or its just a movie based on a toy.  People have lowered their standards too much.  Look at the Dark Knight, Iron Man, Star Trek, great movies. Just because it  is a genre movie does not mean we have to lower our standards and forgive bad dialogue, bad acting, poor character development, weak plot.  The reason we get so many crappy movies is because people will still pay to go see something that is loud with explosions and nothing else going for it. They make their money and can churn it out quick because they don't have to worry about the movie actually being a good movie.  Who knows maybe GI Joe will be surprisingly good.  But I will wait to hear before I go and pay my money at the movie theatre.

Had you thought about or planned on seeing the movie before you saw the trailer?
