I don't think I've lowered my expectations.  But unlike things like "Star Trek", this is a movie based mainly on a very successful line of toys (and some cartoons).  So, that might tell you a bit about what the movie may end up like.  Also, some movies for me just have the "thrill factor."  I see different movies for different reasons.  Sometimes I just want to see some great action and bad guys getting put into the dirt.  Anyway, we will see how it turns out.

I agree 100% with Spockfan on this and have zero interest in seeing this...
Had you thought about or planned on seeing the movie before you saw the trailer?

I hadn't given it much thought one way or the other when I heard abouit it. I envisioned something kind of darker and gritty but when I saw the trailer, I was really turned off.

Yeah, I think it's that thrill factor that has been lost on me. I used to be blown away by great action and effects but now I am numb to them and they bore me to tears. I go to the movies so rarely, it really needs to be compeling for me to make the time and spend the money. I'd rather spend 2 hours on my bike listening to Treks in Sc Fi than seeing a lame action movie sitting on my butt. :)

P.S.- I did finally see Transformers and actually thought it was ok, much better than the first, IMO. The story was incomprehensible but it still managed to be fun. I took my best friends middle daughter, it was cute. :)

SPOCKFAN

Yeah but movies are much more entertaining when there is great action and a compelling story and a well put together movie, instead of watching movies that a re little more than a stunt show.

Ktrek

I saw the trailer all four times I saw Star Trek. Although some of the sfx look fine there was nothing in the trailer that compels me to go see the film. I might rent it when it comes out on DVD. I bought volume one of the cartoon series and I have to say for it's time it is quite good. Even my wife liked the first five episodes. I imagine it must have been groundbreaking at the time to have continuing story arcs that went past one episode? The first story takes five episodes to tell and I don't recall any other cartoon doing this until the X-Men but maybe someone else has a better handle on cartoon history. I didn't watch a lot of the 80s cartoons.

Saw "G.I. Joe" yesterday. Enjoyed it for the most part. I was never into the Joe cartoons or toys, etc. so I have very little background in them. The most I knew was from that recent "G.I. Joe Resolute" cartoon thing. This movie is exactly what you see in the commercials, lots of action, a little story and some hammy over-acting at times. There were a few moments that I groaned about things happening, but overall it was much like "Transformers." A big, loud summer action movie. I know many will hate it based on their knowledge of "Joe" but for me it was a pretty fun 2 hrs.

Omra

It was a megaton of mindless fun.

And an interesting take on the franchise and characters, nothing to complain about from me...

I liked what they did with the Baroness!

It was a fun movie - one continuous action sequence in Paris.  I expected some departures from the original cartoon.  Originally, I was not planning to see this but some great choices for the casting.   OMG - Arnold (The Mummy) Vosloo as Zartan,  Dennis Quaid as Hawk.  Sienna Miller was great as the Baroness.   Some choice flashbacks and a fairly good story.   The CGI is becoming so seemless - first with Trans2 and now this.  wow..

Rico

Yeah - it was a fun movie.  Some great publicity pics here:  http://www.lethalagents.com/yojoe/

I saw it last night.  It was alright.  I like the way the Snake-Eyes/StormShadow backstory was handled, and I liked the Destro backstory as well.  Effects were for the most part pretty cool, and there were a few nods to those of us who grew up with the 80's cartoon.

I did NOT like the convoluted origin of Cobra Commander & Baroness, and I was kind of disappointed with some of the design choices.  The two that stand out for me: Cobra Commander & Snake-Eyes.  the design of CC's mask was pretty lame; it reminded me of Dr. Doom from the FF movie.  And Snake-Eyes was almost there, but they had to take a cool design & mess it up by adding a mouth onto the costume.

A quick question:  Doesn't ice float in water?  The scene where
they destroyed the undersea base by bringing the polar ice crashing down into it
really seemed wrong to me somehow.

I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

Rico

Ice floats in water - even in sea water.  So, yeah that scene was wrong.

Andrew and I went to G.I. Joe today.  I liked it.  It was a lot like watching a cartoon- but with cool live stuff.  The gadgets, action and geeky cool things were in abundance.  I got a little confused on the plotline and who the characters were, but that's normal for me! :)  All in all I liked it better than Andrew.  I even slurped down a white cherry icey.  Mmm Mmm.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

I went to see it Sunday afternoon and I liked it.  It was exactly the way I thought it was going to be.  Lots of  shooting and special effects.  My only problem with the movie was with the military ball scene.  Duke is a Captain, yet he wears the gold oak leaves of a Major at the ball.  Maybe I'm too picky.

Rico

Was Duke a Captain during that ballroom scene?  Isn't that a flashback and in the past?
