Apple, Inc. and iBiquity Corp. have created a new service called iTunes tagging. The service lets listeners with HD Radio receivers containing a special tag button to “tag” songs they hear on the FM dial.

“iTunes tagging takes music discovery on the radio to the next level,” says Greg Joswiak, Apple VP for iPod program management.

There currently have been a little over a hundred thousand HD radio receivers sold in the United States since it premiered in 2004 and the HD industry is set to spend around $250 million to get the technology known and introduced to a much broader market of consumers. The technology allows users to receive conventional terresterial radio signals in CD quality sound and capture [tag] the songs wanted for purchase through iTunes.
