I just saw this episode and thought it was GREAT! Oh, how I miss Barclay and Troi!  I loved how the writers of this episode drew comparisons between Barclay and the Voyager crew (both are alone in the universe).  Barclay is the one member of 'Project Pathway' who identifies with Voyager's situation and sacrifices the most to communicate with them. I think this just topped "Message In A Bottle".

Wow.. Jen is excited about a Voyager episode... yay!!!!! I knew it would happen :)

And yes that is one of my favorite episodes.

Well, you have to admit there were some BIG Voyager stink bombs. I just happened to see a bunch of those in a row...which resulted in a crinkled nose. Now it seems I've seen several good ones in a row. :)

Just watched "one small step". Another good one.

I will never admit to "stink bomb" with Voyager :) There are episodes that I don't watch over and over again but for the most part I love them all.. same with TNG and DS9.

When Voyager started out I was wondering if they were purposely making Janeway incompetent because she was a woman or something. How many times do you need to get your ship taken over in one season?

"you were wondering if they were purposely making Janeway Incompetent because she was a woman or something?"  I don't think you meant that the way it reads X  :D...it sounds funny...but not funny ha-ha.

I'm pretty sure they were on a budget crunch on this series. It's cheaper to film on the set of the Voyager than to create other worlds for them to travel to.  So, the aliens came to them... ;)

Seeing a woman as captain was what made me want to watch this show. To my knowledge, it hadn't been done on TV before Voyager aired.

What I meant to say was that I don't know if the writers would have let the ship be taken over so many times if it was Sisko or Picard or Kirk. Sure, they have had their vessels taken over, but they were also key in getting it back undercontrol. For some reason, it was rarely Janeway that got the ship back under control. I know Picard had his "Wesley saves the day moments", but more times than not, he was involved in the direct rescue of the ship. This could be because of one of two things.

1) The Writers felt that a male captain needs to be a part of the salvation of the crew and ship to show their leadership.

2) The writers felt that the testosterone factor wasn't important and a ship didn't need the captain to save it all of the time.

This made the crew seem a little more experienced, but at the cost of the captain seeming a little more dependant on her crew than other officers seen on screen.

Jen

Well, I tend to believe that they were spreading the glory. Seven and Bilana saved the day often enough to balance the deficit...It really doesn't bother me that the captain wasn't always the hero.
