Ok, I have to wake you guys up from your delusions  :biggrin  ;D

Well, ok, i was just kidding, but from the little experience I've had with XBox360, I've been very disappointed.  First, they actually have you update the games like computer games.  I mean, this can be a nice feature, but when you NEED internet to update the games because some of the content wasn't updated before you got it, that just makes me wonder, why?  If I want to play a computer game, I'll buy it for the computer, not the XBox360.  <Call of Duty 2 required me to download content from the internet before I could complete the game.....very very sad.  Not to mention that you have to pay for the darn service to do that.>

2nd.  This is the most fragile system I have ever seen.  I know your not supposed to beat the crap out of them, but they should be able to endure some things.  But when were having electircal problems at this beach house, the system suddenly quit working.  As far as I can tell it wasn't an electrical surge because my laptop or the TV <that it was connected to> wasn't damaged.  <No surge protector on TV>

I don't know what your guy's experience with the system is, but this system I think has some problems that need to be addressed.  <Not to mention of course, that it had problems when they first released it.  Such as overheating>

I guess though that I might be biased because I'm a Nintendo fan.  Even though I haven't bought the WII, I've been very impressed with it.  Though if only I could play it....  Oh, and PS3 is  :roflmao. Please....blueray?  It only works at its best <graphic wise> if you have blue ray tvs...this is the same thing with Componenet Video Cables that Gamecube experimented with...useless.  Its simply a fad that will die within a few years.

I know it sounds like I'm a downer on these systems.  But to be honest, they aren't really that impressive on the whole.  They require far more than they should and they make me just want to stick with my computer because I then know what is needed.  Not becoming suprised by: "needs a patch in order to play" or some other bs from a XBox360.  Again, simplify the systems, let ppl know what is required before you buy it and you'll get better sales.  At least from ppl like me.

Again, everyone is entilded to their opinions.  If you think I'm wrong go ahead and post.  I won't knock you down. ;)

I know this is probably my most dark post I've ever posted, but it is my opinion on these "new and great" systems.  I don't want to offend anyone of course if you think your system is fine.  I just thought I would post on this for the heck of it.

Again, if you disagree, post and let me hear your opinions.  :)

Very valid points and I agree with most of it.  But, if you are into console games then you are kind of stuck with them.  We had our first 360 start to have lock ups in some games, sent it in to Microsoft and got a new one.  Yes they have problems but MS is taking care of their customers and just extended the warranty to three years.

I don't have much of an opinion on the PS3.  Just not any games I'm really dying to play on it so we don't own one - yet.

As far as patch downloads, that's kind of a good thing I think.  At least they can fix games with problems.

But honestly I mainly just play games on my PC, my kids are the console players.  But they play quite a bit on their PC's as well.

KingIsaacLinksr

I no longer play console games because:
1. Going to college, pretty sure the list doesn't include consoles.
2. $$$$$$$$$$$ is becoming a bigger issue with these systems....getting more and more expensive.

Although patches are a somewhat good idea, for a console, they should come into your hands ready to play without any bugs.  I can handle bugs with computers, but when the WII has problems, then it sucks...

I have a 360 Elite and a Fast Fast Comp.  I like them both RTS like C&C is definate Comp.  Rainbow 6 Vegas is awesome on the 360.  They are both good.  If PS3 came down another 100 I would get one, but I think 360 is a better value because of all the discounted games and the online play is AWESOME.

You don't have to pay for xbox live to receive game updates, just have an account set up, and broadband internet of course to access it.  The "silver", or free service in other words, gives you the updates you need.  The price gap between a decent gaming PC and the current gen consoles has definitely narrowed this go round, but it is still cheaper to get a 360 than a PC and I think the overall performance and gaming experience in general is better on most games on the consoles.  I've had real problems with my 360 and Microsoft's customer service/repair system, but I look at that as a separate issue.

I don't think high def home entertainment is going to fade away.  It may be a fad and for early adopters at the moment, but as the prices continue to drop more and more people will be taking advantage of the clearly superior video quality.

Ah, there is the problem.  Not everyone can or has access to broadband internet.  As odd as that may sound, Broadband or w/e other internet is sometimes not avaliable to ppl in their area.  There are many places that companies won't set up internet.  (or it costs a lot of $$).

So thats the thing, if i'm stuck in an area that I cannot access high-speed internet, then it makes it frustrating that I can't download this stuff and play the game.

I love my PS3. We mainly use it to watch DVDs, and the quality far surpasses the regular DVD players we have. Even watching shows I've downloaded and burned to DVD work really well.

I have Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and I really enjoy it. The images are so crisp and clear, it's fantastic. I have one BluRay film - Through a Scanner Darkly, because it was $20 and I generally buy all my DVDs on sale or used.

I've rented Genji, Days of the Blade, and wow, it is just beautiful. The gameplay isn't too tough, and that's good for me because I prefer to have fun instead of beating my head against a wall trying to time all those jumps just right.

Yes, the 360 has more games, but most of them I just don't even know or care about. Would I like to have Bioshock for PS3? Yes. I'd like to have games for my Mac as well. But alas, the banner is as yet unheralded and I have to make do with Railroad Tycoon 3 and World of Warcraft, and I don't even have Railroad Tycoon 3!

BluRay is not going away. HD as a format will probably not make it (like minidisk faded out), as the disks contain less info (10 gig vs 50 gig) and BluRay is capable of much better quality and value. Years ago, the Beta vs VHS was a harder war to see the outcome of, but nowadays, how many people buy HD players for their 360? I'm thinking maybe half. And PS3, while it has sold about half as many as 360 to date, is catching up the monthly numbers, and has only been out for less than a year. Which is about half as long as the 360.

I'm not sure what you mean about BluRay tv. We have a low-end plasma 42" Toshiba. Sure, it's a nice TV, but it is nowhere near the level you seem to be alluding to. All you need are HDMI inputs, which are becoming standard on newer TVs in the past two years, and you are good to go. If you have an older surround sound system without an HDMI port, you can plug an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver, and have surround sound.

I understand the 360 base model is cheaper, but if you add all the stuff to it that the PS3 already has built in, it's actually about $100 more expensive, and now $200 with the PS3 price drop.

Anyway, like I said, I enjoy my machine, and really love watching Star Trek, etc on it. It's just a gorgeous picture, and the games I've played, even the upconverted PS2 games, work really well.

Ok, this I have to disagree with.  HD is actually becoming a required thing for TV nowadays.  I haven't seen any stop in it, its actually growing everyday.  Blue ray on the other hand doesn't have its own TV channel or even a huge line of Blue-ray TVs.  (so far as I've seen anyway.)

So I definately think that HD is to stay, even though I don't like the idea of paying a lot of $$$ for it.  Blue-ray...well, we will see.

Must resist urge to,.......

Again - all I will say is neither format is going away anytime soon.

I love my 360 and I haven't had any problems with it. Right now I am streaming Starship Farragut from my laptop to my 360 and my HD tv. Earlier I rewatched Torchwood and the finale epp of Series 3 Doctor Who. Not to mention the free demos of every game made for the 360, the system is worth it.

PepperDude

I really don't care who wins the HD vs. BluRay battle right now.   I have a 360 because of the games not because of the video format.  If HD wins then I'll just buy the add on for the 360. If BluRay wins then I'll probably just buy a player unless the PS3 price goes down. I was supposed to buy a Wii but I still want to see better games on that system.

Right now, I'm waiting for Rock Band to be released on the 360. I already have three friends in my future band. We need one more person. . .that game is going to be a best-seller and yet most of my friends don't want to be in my band. They think it's geeky.  But I say that game is going to rock!  :metallica: And hopefully there will be Achievements on X-Box Live.

I'm just clarifying in case you were not aware or thought I meant something different.

This can be confusing, since the company who calls their format HD are being disingenuous.

Bluray is High Def. HD is also High Def. It's the same picture quality. HD TVs show a High Def image, if you have a High Def signal, which both formats project. All or most TVs made in the last few years are now required to be able to transmit a High Def image.

Regardless of which you use, HD or BluRay, you are getting High Def on a High Def TV. The physical format of the disk is the only difference. On HD, the disks only hold 10 gig of information. BluRay disks hold 50 gig of information. The players only read one or the other. (Actually, there is one player out there that reads both.) But the information is the same. If you were to watch a HD formatted disk of a film, and then watch a BluRay formatted version, you would see no difference, ostensibly.

You don't need BluRay channels or TVs, since there aren't any. You just need a High Def one.

Bah, you just threw out all my "knowledge" about this stuff /cry

So, apparently I'm a little confused about the situation.  Guess I'll have to read more into it.  I was under the impression though that Blueray is an entirely different format.  Guess I'm wrong X.X

Thanks for clarifing this Locutus.

Although I still stand by what I say about XBox360 and PS3.  Though, I guess disregard the HD/Bluray.  Since I'm wrong about that.

Thanks.

Ok, so I will sum all this up:

1st.  I was apparently misinformed about HD/Bluray and thus very much confused.   :bond  I thank Locutus for clarifiying this and now I have to go  :bond <---this to my last source for bad information.

2nd.  I am right and you guys are wrong about the xbox360/PS3.  get over it  :biggrin  :roflmao

Still though, I did bring up valid points with these systems.  Maybe I'm just getting synical about "improvements" nowadays.  But I still think that making these sytems like computers isn't a good way to go.  I might as well just buy a computer and stick with those games.  My opinion of course.
