Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - review comments - slight spoilers

Saw it yesterday, on opening day. It was very much like the first FF movie. Quite a bit of comedy tossed in. Like you all know, I'm a pretty big comics fan and yes they do change some things. But I still found it to be a fun, summer, popcorn kind of movie. Do I wish we could see a more serious, deeper FF movie - sure. But I tried to enjoy it for what it is. It's actually one of the few comic book type movies my wife likes, so there is that. Had some pretty slick effects as well. The surfer looked great. The power swapping like is shown in the trailers was fun. So, turn off your brains a bit and buy some popcorn and have some fun.   :biggrin

I thought it was a fun movie, and found myself enjoying it more then the first one. I do agree that I would love to see a more serious Fantastic Four, but this was good for me as well. There were certain elements of the movie I did not care for, mainly how they handled their Celebrity Status. I thought the scenes with the Silver Surfer were great.  Like the first one, I was a bit disappointed that the movie was so short.

Jeff - have you had a chance to see the extended cut of the first movie?  I might check it out sometime.  The second movie left me feeling that they cut a bunch of stuff out.

I have not been able to see the extended version of the first, I should check it out. I feel the same, that it felt like they cut a lot out of the second. I would prefer that these movies are two hours long, but they must sell the theaters on a 90 minute franchise for these movies.

Took my dad to see FF2 on Sunday for Father's Day and really enjoyed it. I know many people didn't like the first one but obviously enough people saw it for them to do a sequel.  But I really enjoyed the first one so I expected to enjoy this one too and it didn't disappoint.  I really enjoyed the story, the SFX were AWESOME and overall look of the movie was great.  I agree with what people have said here.. this is a good summer popcorn movie. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Loved the Fantastic Car. And it was good to see them focus on Johnny Storm in this one.
