I did a search on matrix and found mentions of The Matrix but no discussion.  I happen to think that was a great series of  flicks.  Rather than go into my reasons right now I think these could make an entertaining and informative presentation.

I thought the first film was awesome and in many ways groundbreaking but the sequels did nothing for me. One thing that bothered me the most is how each film had what I would call "party scenes" and with each film they got worse until you have basically an orgy going on in the last film. I really don't want to see that kind of thing in films and if it wasn't for the orgy scenes I probably would have purchased the set even if I found the sequels less interesting.

I enjoyed the sequels quite a bit.  Especially number two.  Of course the first film kind of came out of nowhere and was amazing.  But I am still a fan of the other movies and how they continued the story.

The first was "mind-numbingly" good in my opinion. I have seen it too many times to count. I thought the other two were good also, just not quite as good as the first. I am sure part of that was because of the newness and originality of the first one. I also chalk some of it up to the hype that was created waiting the second two to come out. I don't think any film could live up the anticipation that was created waiting for the second and third film.

I enjoyed all three movies, I think the first was of course the best, it was new and exciting. The second one was good but it was a middle episode. I have problems with sequels when they aren't self standing by themselves.. you had to see one for two to make sense and then it ended in a cliffhanger so you had to see three to complete the story. And three was good but I didn't like where they took the entire story. But all in all the Matrix trilogy was a fun ride.

I have all 3 DVDs and have watched them multiple times.  I am not aware of any scenes that I would go so far as to call orgies.  Considering the degree of violence in the films I think accusing the somewhat wild parties of being orgies is a bit absurd.

And now for a small detour into The Twilight Zone.

The Matrix brings up the concept of reincarnation and Avatars although te words were never used.  Neo was a reincarnating Avatar and The Matrix was his successful version.  The Architect says Neo was the sixth.  Why would the Wachowskis choose that number?  Because on the Seventh Day God rested.  The task was completed in SIX.  ROFL

There were hints of things to come in the first movie.  When Neo was arrested in the first movie we see him thru a bunch of monitors in the interrogation room.  We later see those same monitors making up the walls of The Architect's room.  When Heo goes to see The Oracle the Spoon Boy gives Neo a spoon, but there are 5 twisted spoons on the floor.  Did they represent Neo's five predecessors  which the Merovingian mentioned tho he didn't specify a number.

Sci-Fi writers are futurists and can provide us with thought provoking perspectives.

This is a scene from Reloaded that people don't discuss very much and you might think it could be left out without much loss.  But you have to wonder why the Wachowsky brothers put it in.

QuoteCouncillor Hamann:  Have you ever been to the engineering level? I love to walk there at night, it's quite amazing. Would you like to see it?
Neo: Sure.
Councillor Hamann: Almost no one comes down here, unless, of course, there's a problem. That's how it is with people - nobody cares how it works as long as it works. I like it down here. I like to be reminded this city survives because of these machines. These machines are keeping us alive, while other machines are coming to kill us. Interesting, isn't it? Power to give life, and the power to end it.
Neo: We have the same power.
Councillor Hamann: I suppose we do, but down here sometimes I think about all those people still plugged into the Matrix and when I look at these machines, I.. I can't help thinking that in a way, we are plugged into them.
Neo: But we control these machines, they don't control us.
Councillor Hamann: Of course not, how could they? The idea's pure nonsense, but... it does make one wonder just... what is control?
Neo: If we wanted, we could shut these machines down.
Councillor Hamann: Of course... that's it. You hit it! That's control, isn't it? If we wanted, we could smash them to bits. Although if we did, we'd have to consider what would happen to our lights, our heat, our air.
Neo: So we need machines and they need us. Is that your point, Councillor?
Councillor Hamann: No, no point. Old men like me don't bother with making points. There's no point.
Neo: Is that why there are no young men on the Council?
Councillor Hamann: Good point.
Neo: Why don't you tell me what's on your mind, Councillor?
Councillor Hamann: There is so much in this world that I do not understand. See that machine? It has something to do with recycling our water supply. I have absolutely no idea how it works. But I do understand the reason for it to work. I have absolutely no idea how you are able to do some of the things you do, but I believe there's a reason for that as well. I only hope we understand that reason before it's too late."

That business about can't live without machines and machines coming to kill us.

We are approaching SEVEN BILLION PEOPLE on the planet.  Without technology we cannot produce and distribute enough food for anywhere near that many.  But we are also using technology to wreck the planet.  It is also possible that the misuse of technology is wrecking the ecosystem sufficiently to the point that it is becoming a threat to our food supply.

But technology does not decide what to do with itself.  Human beings make the decisions about how the technology is used.  We thought Smith was destroyed in Matrix 1 but actually Neo unknowingly gave him new powers and separated him from the machine world.  The Oracle said Smith was the dark side of Neo.  In Revolutions we see Smith and Neo whirling around fighting in the rain, a spinning Yang and Yin symbol.

Neo means new.  We need a new mankind to cope with what we have done with technology or we can destroy ourselves.  World War II gave us a technological Trinity, the atomic bomb, long range missiles and THE COMPUTER.  It looks like the computer can have the most effect on mankind unless we start throwing the nukes around.  But people fighting over the remaining resources due to stupidity can bring that about.

Another thing I don't see mentioned much in Matrix discussions is the LOGOS.  Logos is from the New Testament (Neo Testament) and the destroyed Nebuchadnezzar was from the Old Testament.  Christians will tell you that LOGOS means WORD but it should be obvious that it is related to the word LOGIC.  For something to be logic it cannot be just any word.  Any Vulcan could tell you that.

Neo's accidental creation of Smith gave him the bargaining power to make a deal with the machines.  We will have to come up with a logical solution for dealing with our technological monsters.  But letting the economics profession lie to us about planned obsolescence and pretending depreciation ain't happening is not logical.

Now see, I've let it scroll to page 3 and I don't know if anyone watched any of the links.

A lot of people say the first movie was great and there are varying degrees to which people like 2 and 3 to a lesser degree.  The first film in any series has an advantage because it introduces THE IDEA that is the basis of the movie.  The first Alien movie introduced the biology of the alien.  Aliens II added the hive queen but Aliens didn't really have any deep ideas.  It was really a horror sci-fi movie, the Alien will kill you if you don't kill it first.  Nothing complicated about that.

Now The Matrix introduced the Idea of the entire human race being in cyberspace but not knowing it.  I read Neuromancer back in the 80's but the hackers and pros in cyberspace knew where they were and most people weren't, but The Matrix was different.

Now obviously people watching Reloaded already knew the idea from seeing The Matrix so what is there to make the sequels interesting.  What is The Matrix Trilogy about.

The Nebuchadnezzar was destroyed and Neo switched to the Logos.  Like I said Logos is from the Neo Testament then what is the meaning of Nebuchadnezzar.  In Daniel Nebuchadnezzar is the ruler of Babylon who had a dream interpreted by Daniel.  Now Morpheus is the Greek god of dreams so what is the dream about.  In Nebuchadnezzar's dream there was a statue with a head of gold, arms and shouldrs of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron and feet of iron and clay.

http://www.teachinghearts.org/dre17hdan02.html

Now what if the belly and thighs are the Roman Empire?  Going down the statue is traveling through time and the statue splits in two at the legs.  The Roman Empire split in two, an East and a West and that split is still visible in the world today.  The Roman Catholic Church is in the West and The Eastern Orthodox is in the East.

European culture has spread around the world and we are to be globalized.
