It's been many years since I bought a new camera.  Been eyeing this beauty for a little while.  Just got it yesterday.  It's a Canon with a 50x optical zoom, 12.1 megapixel, full 1080p capable.  I plan on giving it a good workout at Austin Comic Con in a couple weeks.   :biggrin

Have fun with your new Camera Rico, always nice to get a new camera, and learn all the new little tricks and things it can do. Sure you will have some real nice pictures to share from your trip and con.

For a single lens camera I think the SX50 is a fine camera (I sell them). The zoom on it is quite good in optical range and even once you reach digital it still prints decent pictures. The reset could be a little faster but if you set it for action burst it takes some decent shots. I think it's a good compromise for people that don't want to invest in a DSLR and still have some good image quality. An excellent family and everyday camera for sure but not so much for artistic photography. However, at that price point I probably would have looked more closely at the mirrorless cameras (Samsung's NX1000 or NX1100) and spent a little more. I hope you will post some of your pics!

It's a very good camera for the money - very good.  I have spent about a year reading, researching, etc.  I didn't want a DSLR at this point for the types of ways I plan to use this.  I wanted a very large zoom with great video abilities too.  For what my wants and needs are this is a perfect fit.

Couple quick pics I just shot outside.  These pics I shrunk down a lot for the forum.

Pretty!

Rico, I hope you don't think I was being critical of your choice. I agree the SX50 is a very good camera for a single lens unit. I like the camera and have sold many of them. I much prefer it over Nikon's comparable P520. It's a very versatile camera and for most cases a very practical camera. I've seen many prints from it working in Photo and for standard print sizes it does an excellent job. Where it starts to show that it's not a DSLR is in large poster prints. Outside of that I love the camera and think you made a fine choice. Nice shots of the Fall color by the way!

So cool Rico!  LOVE IT!  Cameras are so fun.  I'm doing my first big filming project for a National Construction Company on Friday and using the Canon with a new lens that I got for my company.  I am hopeful that it will be amazing!

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Thanks Rick.  It's really a perfect camera for what I want to do with it.  Back in the 'film days' I spent some time in a darkroom and that really made me love photography and I've been wanting to get back to it.  Good luck on your new job with the construction company.

I recently got my hands on an older canon rebel xs. Been having tons of fun with it. Right now I have the standard 18-55mm kit lens plus a fixed 50mm 1.8f lens which is awesome for portrait type stuff.

Great pics!
