This week guest hosts Chris and newcomer Chuck cover the cool series, "Robotech."  This isn't a topic I'm really up on a lot so I'm very happy to have them cover it on the podcast.  Thanks a lot guys for doing this.  Here are some words from Chris on this show...

Hey, it's Chris and this week I'm covering Robotech. This time I have brought along my old friend Charles Bingham to help me out. We talk about the characters, mecha, and music of the classic 80's show, and a general overview of the story of the "Macross Saga", the first 36 episodes of Robotech. We also discuss the future of the franchise, and some current geek topics in the news this week. Put your Veritech in Guardian Mode and reminisce about the classic anime series Robotech with us.

The opening intro for Robotech...you can pretty much watch this whole series on YouTube. It's also streaming on Netflix.

Loved it! So interesting...it has been a while since I watched so it was a good trip down memory lane. I read a lot about anime/mange particularly how it has Japanese cultural influences & how some things get changed in international versions. I used to write for an online magazine in Japan and I focused on academic studies of manga/anime and how it relates to religion and myth. Things like robots, idol culture etc are kind of neat to explore too. So much in one podcast.

This was my first ever podcast, and I had a great time doing it. I felt like there was so much more to cover though, and I really wish we had more time to do so. There's probably another podcast's worth of material to go over, if not more.

Also, I apologize for my poor quality microphone; if I'm ever invited to do another cast I'll have a better one next time.

Thanks very much. I bought the whole series on DVD a while ago, of course now, like everything else, it's available streaming and my DVDs are an anachronism.

I just listened to the podcast one Robotech last night.  Great podcast guys, I had heard of the series before but never really watchted it.  I have however seen some of the movies in the series on TV and some rental.  I found the whole thing about proto culture to be very interesting, fighting aliens with music wow!  I do remember the Saturday manatee video outlet stores from back in the day.  I am sure they went out of business a long time ago.  Nowdays you got to got to either Best buy, B&N, walmart, or go on-line to get all the good movies or TV shows.
I am going with the best information that I have.

Thanks for the kind words. My store was against Walmart back then too, but the fact is that since dedicated stores are dying or gone, there isn't anywhere for a movie-phile to go and browse through a store that has a huge selection. It's too bad, really. We had plenty of regular customers who came in and bought a movie or two a week to add to their collection. I know you can buy online or stream stuff now, but I miss the experience of going to a video store and talking to the staff who were usually big film buffs.

Your wellcome Chris.  Yes I kinda miss it too. going to the mall and shopping at the video stores that only had movies or records or Cd's and nothing else was  fun.  now they are in muti faceted retail stores, except B&N maybe.
