So, Instagram is in some deep poo-doo it seems after their announced new privacy changes.  Like most social media networks it seems they want to use your information to make some money off it.  Read some of this new terms of service:

To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.

Of course, they are saying they won't but I'm not so sure.  I actually use Flickr for most of my photo storage and sharing.  Anyway, read about it all at the links below:

This will probably be the final straw for me. I've had a lot of issues with how Instagram operates over the past year and this doesn't make me feel any better so I'll probably be switching to something else in the new year.

I'm still not entirely clear what Instagram is/does, I just see a lot of pics that seem to originate there. At the abstract, this sounds like a company trying to make a paying business out of thin air, which applies to most web based companies. They have to monetize their "business" somehow, it will either work or won't.  Unless they have meaningfull ad support eyeballs on the internet are notoriously cheap and want it for free.

Instagram is basically a mini social network revolving around photos that you can easily edit and apply filters. It's practical use is that you can share photos to other social networks easily and quickly including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and more.

Not good. Given the fact they've recently stopped twitter from integrating their content as well this makes their service even less compelling for me.

Ah, well that's the beauty of free enterprise, consumers get to vote on how and where they consume.

I love Instagram, it rocks... now I have to decide what I want to do.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Now that they're apparently back-tracking there's a view around that this was nothing more than a publicity stunt guaranteed to grab headlines in a slow news period.

Don't know what to think myself but I don't use Instagram anyway.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Yeah, I would be very skeptical about that.

If they think that was a good publicity stunt then frankly their marketing agents need to be sacked. Me, i'm not taking any chances and will not be putting any photos on Instagram.

Likely the same agency that does marketing for JJ Abrams.... ;)
