Tablet advice for an mate/colleague

Hi guys,

I would welcome some advice on the following.  A mate in work is going in hospital for a cancer operation in just over a week's time, and a few of us have been trying to decide what we are going to buy him when he's recooperating. 

He's quite artistic and someone suggested a tablet on which he can paint/design something.  I don't think we will collect enough for an iPad, but i would welcome some other alternatives. 

My mate's tumour was found during a routine trip to the dentist, and they will have to remove a third of his tongue!  The poor man will be fed through directly by a tube while in hospital, and will be eating mushed up food for months after he leaves hospital...he's only 34!  :(

Well for artistic stuff, the iPad is the best as it has a big screen and plenty of apps for it.  Idk, maybe someone can suggest a Droid one with a big screen, I'm not sure what's on the market right now.

Don't get the Playbook though.

Thanks for the offer, but I can't take your money.  Beleive me your offer is greatly appreciated!  I will let you know what we end up getting and more importantly how my mate gets on with his treatment. :)

Sorry to hear about your friend. If an iPad is out of the question then how about the new Google Nexus 7? It's out next week, a good price and will be well supported. It is a 7" tablet but to be honest if you want a 10" then iPad is the only contender at the moment.
