Wife's iTunes account hacked

Well, someone seems to have gotten into Lynn's iTunes account and they changed her credit card and a bunch of other info.  She contacted iTunes and has changed her password and email address on the iTunes account.  The weird thing is they put in a new credit card and bought like a couple gift cards with it.  One question we had is, if you open your iTunes account, does it show all of your credit card digits if you go in to change to a new card number?  Can someone look at their account and tell me?  I use Paypal for iTunes so I can't look, but I'm pretty sure it just shows the last 4 digits.  Anyway, she's changed pretty much everything now so I think all will be fine.  I'm just trying to figure out why they would do this.  Maybe to get access to her email somehow?

I wouldn't think so.  They probably used a stolen credit card, hacked into her account, changed the details to the stolen card number, bought the credits, sold'em and are gone. 

I checked my account, only shows the last 4, expiration date, and name & address.  Security code is blank.
