The NEXT Generation of shopping carts...

I just heard that Whole Foods Market was considering these carts for their grocery stores. I think it's cool. I HATE wandering around the bigger stores looking for someone to help me find an obscure ingredient for a new recipe. This cart tells you where products are located in the store. Other features I read about, include nutritional information for the items in your cart and an ongoing calculation of your total. Awesome.

That is very cool and very handy. I can NEVER find the coconut milk in my grocery store. Though Fran and I make a game out of estimating how much the final bill will come to as it's ringing up :)

Though I'm a bit disappointed because I was expecting to see an Enterprise-D shopping cart when I initially clicked on this thread.

Yes, I apologize for the false advertising. ;)  I had to draw members into the conversation some how!  Plus, they refer to it as something like that in the video. :D

The initial shot showing the scan head mounted on the handle looks a little like a starship. I'm not sure of the scanner is the deflector dish or a Bussarc collector.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Nice to have a scanner on the cart to get the price, as sometimes hard to locate the ones they have setup throughout stores. I always thought as well that grocers kept moving things around to promote people spending more time in the store, and buying more well looking for things. But I do see the value in getting directions to hard to find items, as there are always a few I look for but never in the spot I would think, like Joe's coconut milk. My Wife always send me for evaporated milk, and for me I usually struggle finding it though I usually should just go tot he baking section first :) .

...which is usually where the coconut milk is too for some reason :)

Maybe I'm neurotic but I hate going to "strange" grocery stores because I can never find anything! I think something like this would make people more willing to go to different places.

Yeah, it might help when at a store that a person does not usually shop at. The Grocery stores have gotten really large over the years, so some device will be needed. One Grocery store we have, usually does a reset every year and mixes everything around, which I think they do on purpose. At least the Walmarts we have here, to their credit, have not done any major resets the past few years, so get to know where items are.

I always try to stick to Loblaws and their related companies (No Frills, Superstore, etc) since they tend to have similar layouts.

Our Superstore is always changing it's layout. Maybe it is just a store to store thing possibly. They are so big, could get really lost in there :) , so the cart would also need directions to the exit ;)

If they had those carts here they would have to be waterproof.  I guess you could have cart cops.

I have been and always will be, your friend.
