Hmm, interesting that it went down until the 4th where it started going back up.  I always felt the 4th was the worst of the bunch....and wow, 250 million budget on the last film...can't figure out why that would be unless it was all the special effects they put in.

Still, #s are unsurprising.  Its popular, it makes $$, why not?  :)

You win Kevin.. the Harry Potter movies are tanking the 800 to 900 million per movie is just horrible. Don't know why they continue to make these films.

No need for sarcasm Kenny! I was just voicing an opinion about why Warner feels the need to put SO MUCH publicity into this film? I don't recall near this much preview material in any of the last films. Makes me wonder why? I know they are still making millions but with Warner it is never ever enough!

I guess in this economy, you can't be too sure.  Actually though, unless I'm missing something, this winter is going to be about as exciting as this summer was for movies....(not much).  Beyond Harry Potter I don't seem to recall much else being made.  I mean, compared to last year where I went to the movies almost once a week.  Although I guess they make up for it next year with a ton of blockbusters.

Kevin the reason why Warners is plugging this movie is they are learning from MGM's disasterous business sense. Hallows is a two parter and you really have to sell this. You will see the same with The Hobbit.
Also they know that fans young and old will buy the posters and get excited by new tv spots, it's called good marketing and excellent distribution tactics.

If only Handmade did this.

A couple thoughts on this.  First, the Potter films and books are MEGA-HUGE successes.  No one can deny that.  I think a few things are going on to account for the press (which actually I don't think is that much more than in the past - posters can be whipped up easily but actually only a few versions make it out to theaters).  This being part one of the last movie I think is part of it.  And they have the money to spend.  This is a successful series and I think they want to go out with a bang!  It does take a little more prodding these days to get people to actually go to the movies and not wait for the DVD.  In any case, these last two films will do great box office.  And I'm sure will be a great end to the Potter movie series.

Oh it's going to be awesome no doubt about it. I just need a baby sitter for the evening. Anybody? Anybody? Lol

One thing I do want to clarify and that is I love the Harry Potter films and have enjoyed every one of them! So, Kenny don't you even dare think I am just dissing your favorite films of all time because I am not. I am very much looking forward to seeing the next film on my one day off. I still do not understand why, in my opinion, there is this over the top promotion. I doubt it will generate that many extra box office sales. People are either ready and excited about the last two films or they are not. At my work place (Sam's Club which is mostly young people) they appear to care less about the latest film. Most are already burned out or outgrown the Harry Potter phenomenon and are ready for something new and exciting. Too bad we have nothing to offer them!

Not really sure where you are seeing this "over the top" promotion Kevin.  I've seen a few commercials on TV now and that's about it.  Again, seems about the same as the other films to me.  I was at the movies just yesterday and saw one poster in one case in the coming soon area - again normal ad's just like a few other films.  Actually the theater had more "Tron - Legacy" stuff around.  Big cardboard lightcycles, large displays, etc.  Anyway, that's what I have been seeing.

We've had only a few adverts on TV, in fact i saw my first TV advert (actually on the TV not online) last night.
As for 'out growing' Potter i think thats just a minority. I mean, i'm an adult how can i out grow any kind of film. Kids i knew when the first film came out back in 2001 loved it and now they are 19 years old and still cant wait to see the new one, its one of these few franchises that are for kids and adults alike. Its not like a Hannah Montana thing.

A couple premiere pics from New York a few nights back.
