Anyone looking to try this game out when it is released?  Would be nice to have a few people to join online with.  It may not be Trek but I heard you can make a female character with green skin :-)
Trek gets better and better the more it is shared.

I got this game a few months ago when it was released.. however i just now started playing it last weekend. I've never played an MMO so I'm looking forward to going deeper. I created my character and played about 10hrs worth.. so far it's really fun.

Love to hear more about it as you progress through the game.  MMO's seem to be all over the place these days.

It's true, I kind of wish there was a kind of XBox Live service for MMOs. I'd love to pay a flat rate and be able to play 2 or 3 of them at my leisure. I can only justify one at a time and right now that's Rift. I'd love to be able to play WoW, Rift and maybe Eve but 45 bucks a month is too much!

I just wish there wasn't any initial cost associated with them.  A $75 upfront cost?  Yuck.

Great news about this game that will get me to play it for sure!  Starting in late October PS3 and PC players can download and play for free.  Can't wait.

'DC Universe Online' Drops Subs for Tiered Free-to-Play [with Video]

Sony Online Entertainment has decided to adopt a flexible free-to-play business model for DC Universe Online, the company's popular massively multiplayer online game. Beginning late October, it will be free to download the PC and PlayStation 3 version of the game, after which players can choose from three separate levels of game options and benefits: Free, Premium and Legendary.

At the Free level, players can create two characters, join a league, and access Gotham City, Metropolis and all of the other areas. Gamers who previously paid the monthly fee or who have purchased at least $5 of in-game items are in the Premium level, with benefits including additional slots for characters and inventory. Downloadable adventure packs, additional character slots and other enhancements can be purchased in-game.

Players who pay $14.99 a month are in the Legendary level, which includes all downloadable content packs at no additional cost, significantly more character and inventory slots, and many other benefits like the ability to form unrestricted-sized leagues.

The game's first downloadable content pack was "Fight for the Light," which became available on Sept. 7. It featured Green Lantern in new scenarios and introduced a new power set called Light.

"Our philosophy embraces learning from our experience and as a pioneer in the free-to-play space with proven successful games like Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures, we believe this new model will expand the DCUO experience and offer more options that cater to every type of player so they can play the game in a way that fits them," John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment, said in a statement. "We've listened to our community, and we've determined that the free-to-play model is the best fit for DC Universe Online."

Me too, we should try to play together.  Anyone else doing the PS3 version?

I am downloading mine right now, hope to be in game by about midnight or so.  Fair warming for PS3 players...it's like a 12-14 GB download, and the ps3 servers are slow as dirt.  I've been downloading for four and a half hours now. I'll post my impressions of the game over the next few days, and hope some of you with PS3s want to join me in the game. It's free!!!!!

PS3 players.. feel free to "add friend" me on the game.. "Petey" and "Lisbeth" are my hero avatars.. "DeLaVega" on the Villain side.

Also.. since the surge in players.. there is now a 10-20min wait just to log in to play the game... so you may want to take that into account when you take the time to play. Also... there are some noticeable glitches.. most annoying is if you character flies, there seems to be a "bug/glitch" with the flying mechanics..

Yes I was super mad after I spent most of a day downloaded then couldn't log in to play until the next day.  When I finally did log in, I had a very difficult time figuring out what was going on.  I, of course, created a flyer and was zooming all over the place like an idiot, virtually uncontrollably.  There's almost no tutorial, and with the digital download of the game there's not even a manual to read to figure out game basics.  I wasn't that thrilled with the combat either...there's no sense of actually hitting or damaging your enemies, it feels like hitting air, or nothing at all.  The camera is super wonky as well, making things very difficult to see.  I will give this a chance but I can't honestly say I will be putting too much time into this.  If you wan't to add my character to your list I am "Wonderkitty" on the Hero PVE server (I made the toon with my daughter and she came up with the name, as well as the pink outfit, I decided on the magic/healing powers and force beam weapon myself.)

Anyone playing this still?  Did anyone try the free, PC version?  The reason I'm asking is PC Gamer named it the Best MMO of 2011.  So, maybe it's worth downloading and trying it out on the PC.

I heard from a friend that he found it to be grindy (and thus quit playing it).  So that and a lack of friends playing it doesn't make it appealing for me to play right now.  But it must be fun because they are making their money back from what I last heard.
