A few weeks ago my Office 2007 said it wasn't valid.  So-I looked for the discs.  Couldn't find them.  So I got on ebay and found Office 2007 Professional, the place had good feedback and I ordered it.  It came and when I installed it to get rid of the non genuine stuff, it still said it wasn't valid.  I called Microsoft, they told me it was a volume liscensed copy and therefor not valid.  And that I could buy it from them for $500.  I'll pass.  So I got scammed.  I have written to the folks that sold it asking for my money back or a valid license.  I suspect I won't hear from them.  UGH!

Oh, and the guy on the phone barely spoke English... that was so frustrating.  I don't mind a cool accent, but it was so hard to communicate.  I don't get it.

I need this software and have never had the problem.

Had to rant.

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that Rick.  I do know the Student Editions can be bought at Best Buy fairly cheaply.  Or you could try:  http://www.openoffice.org/

There are less *coughs* legit ways of getting Office.  If I didn't get Microsoft Office at a student discount, I'd probably pirate it.  Sorry, MS, but your software is not worth $500+.

Unfortunately, idk what to tell you.  Other than never ebay software again.  If it isn't a scam, it's something just as bad.

Well I am very surprised, but the scammer just refunded me my money.  Go figure.  That is good.  At least I don't feel as bad now.

Bummer about the whole ordeal tho. Hope openoffice works out. Would give anything to get thru what's left of life without having to ever talk to another customer/account support person. Ever. Again.

(no doubt they feel the same re: me (sigh))

Hey Rick, my wife Joyce may be able to get a copy of Office 2010 for you at a discount if you want. Our day jobs are at a Post Secondary University and we get discounts all the time. I got Office 2008 for the Mac for $9.99.  Let me know brother and I'll have her check.  Al

Why don't you Try OpenOffice?  It can save files in MS Office format, and it is free.  Unless you are a really technical user of the various Office products, it should suit your needs.

Open Office is very, very good.

/seconded for OpenOffice.

Another thing that I keep hearing about (if you need more then just office) on the Windows Weekly podcast is getting a Microsoft Technet subscription. For 199 dollars you get access to Microsoft's library of software (less Enterprise stuff). Might be a bit of overkill but it's also an option.

But definitely give OpenOffice a whirl.

Sorry to hear about the ordeal, but at least you got your money back. The Microsoft Office software pricing is all over the board, so I don't think I would ever pay MSRP for it. My company used to be a certified reseller, so I used to be able to buy not for resale copies, not sure if I can or not anymore. I use Office 2003 on my home PC, never really had a reason to upgrade since I never use the full functionality of it anyways.

I must admit, I'm also interested in where your original copy of Office came from.

If that was really legit then you shouldn't have had to go out and get another copy.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Yes I have been using open office for a year now it is in some respects better then microsoft office.

That's great news!

I too recommend Open Office! It is a very good free software and does about anything you need to do with Microsoft Office. It also recognizes all Microsoft formats so you can open your existing files.
