Extra Life shut down

Apparently Blue Host, the company hosting the overlord :P known as Extra Life (Scott Johnson) shut down all sites they host due to Extra Life being too big.  If anyone here is connected to this company, I would recommend cutting ties immediately.  Not a nice way...no, no no, it is quite frankly rude and irresponsible that they just shut them down.  I love how many conditions they have on "unlimited". http://forum.myextralife.com/showpost.php?p=504461&postcount=5 Which if you cut the crap out means this:

Don't get too big and we won't cut ties.  Or the better version:  We're not paid enough.

>_>.

It's amusing that I'm sure several hosting sites have already contacted Scott to host his stuff.  I guess hosting someone as popular as Scott is too much for a company trying to make $$ when no doubt they got some of their revenue due to him being there.  Promoting this company.

I tell ya...some companies are just plain stupid.

Hmmm, that's very interesting.  I know Scott over at ELR and I thought he had a good connection to his hosting company (actually I thought he knew the people there).  He actually contacted me recently about helping with some website work for him.  We'll see how all this plays out.

I suspect even if the company takes back it's decision, Scott will probably leave em for good.  When your business is dependent upon a hosting company to run your websites and they suddenly pull the carpet out from under your feet for no reason, you tend to go somewhere else.  Just makes me wonder why now they suddenly pull the plug.  Seems like they should have been able to adapt to his strain that he put upon him by now.

Well, it appears as though myextralife.com and the forums are still up and running. The other sites for the instance, appslappy, etc are not acessible. I thought Scott was hosted by ZeStuff, maybe extralife is and the other sites were on bluehost. It is pretty awful that they would just shut down the sites with no warning unless they were acting as a vector for attack or were being hit so hard that other sites on the same shared host were suffering.

If his traffic was just getting too big for them, I'd say the absolute minimum they should have done was give him a 48-72 hour warning they'd be shutting his sites down and contacted him both by email and via phone.

Also, Rico aren't you on bluehost?

Nope.  I'm on Dreamhost.  Have been since 2007 now.  Went with them based on Arnie's suggestion who does the Star Wars Action News Podcast.  They've been pretty solid.  Oh, if anyone needs some discount hosting, I can get you a good deal with Dreamhost.

Scott just tweeted that ZeHosting, the company that hosts myextralife.com, will be hosting the sites that were previously on Bluehost. Everything should be back up today.
