Sorry for missing the comment this week. At a wedding yesterday and the eldest has gone away for the weekend which made Friday pretty crazy too. I was trying to rewatch the episode befor recording but just ran out of time.

Great ep. Just listening to Rick's song right now. Riker making her take off her earring really struck me as odd as well. Considering it's a religious thing I imagine Starfleet would let her keep it on.

Yep.  Even Spock got to wear his IDIC back in TOS at times.  Riker was just tossing his weight around.

But TNG doesn't recognise any form of religion ;)

Given the thin spread of Bajorans in Starfleet I'd actually be surprised if Riker recognised it as having religious significance.

It would have been in character for Ro to point it out. She was quick to point out the name thing, why not the religious significance of her earring? I guess it was also possible they didn't come up with that whole thing until DS9.

That's probably the case. Along with the whole Bajora thing, a number of bits and pieces seem to have been a bit fluid at this point.

That's the risk of going back after seven years of species development.

Another great show.. having so much fun catching up on all these older podcasts.. Ensign Ro is one of my favorite episodes of TNG.. always liked that character...
