Here's hoping it's better than last season....

King

What was wrong with last season?? I thought it was the best so far.

idk if I should really answer this here.  I just remembered why I haven't talked much on this thread.  I have a number of reasons as to why I didn't like Season 3, but would rather not post it if it causes friction here.  I love what you guys did in Season 1 and 2, but 3....well.  Just wasn't that watchable to me.  I'll post why if you really want to hear it.  But only if you do Kenny, otherwise I'll hold my silence.

Say what's on your mind. It's not like someone is going to beat you for your opinion. When people make something for public consumption, it's a given that not everyone will like everything or even anything about it.

It's up to you.. you're allowed to hate something.. I didn't write the season.. just worked on it. If you wish to tell me great.. if not.. that's okay as well.

Ok, I'll just hit on the main parts, because if I talked about the nit-picks, we'd be here all day :P.

1st: The excessive amount of Drama.  Was this season supposed to be incredibly dark compared to the first 2?  It seems like it, but it was just...too much.  Too many characters having too many problems.  The Axis of Anarchy just creating more.  Some of it felt forced so it was just in there to add to the overall sour mood of it.  Towards the 2/3rd mark of the series, it just felt like I was dragging through it, forcing myself to watch it just so I could finish the series.  I actually paused several episodes for half a day because it was just....dramatic beyond belief.  This will probably be the only season I don't watch again.

2nd: The lines crossed.  While I can understand with parody & comedy acts, lines are sometimes crossed to be humorous.  So this rarely bugs me.  However, it almost seemed like Felicia Day went out of her way to stick it to MMO players.  All the real life incidents that happened just were extreme.  I don't think I've heard of half of these happening in actual real life.  Maybe it has!  I've certainly heard my share of horror stories when connected with WoW or EvE.  But it seemed like she was just fitting as many possible incidents into the season as she could to.....idk.  Paint MMO players in a bad light?  I'm not sure what she was getting at in this season.  Was it for humor?  Drama?  Self-realization?  Pointing out flaws?  The season would constantly bounce from each of those things during the entire deal.  I wasn't sure whether to laugh, sigh, cry or sit in disgust.  Oh, and how do we fix all these problems?  With Vork coming in and in 1 day solving it all.  ...meh...Vork is awesome, but even I doubt that would happen.

To me, I just found it hard to take.  If even half of the real life events went on, there would be serious consequences.  Police action, jail, etc.  Not the slap on the wrist at the end of Anarchy being forced to quit WoW.

(I am not saying that Felicia Day is a bad person or was sticking into MMO players, I'm just trying to figure out the reason why.)

3rd: The cop.  Maybe this is me being naive, but I did not like the portrayal of the cop.  The mere fact that he was willing to go allow with his guild's breaking of law just got to me.   idk, I realize this isn't real, but with everything adding up, it just got to me.

4th:  This season was just really dark, really edgy and had very few high points.

Am I tying The Guild too much into Real Life?  Am I being too easily offended by Fiction?  Am I reading way too much into this series?  I'm not sure.    I'm not easy to offend, but it kinda did this time.

I will still be watching the next season.  Maybe my attitude has changed by then.  thoughts?

Everyone is entitled to an informed opinion and I respect that.  I have to say though, I personally loved the the last season (but I've enjoyed all of them).  I think it's all in good fun.  While I've seen certain elements of what they portray happen (the bits with Clara ignoring her family happens all the time), I think most of it is just to have us poke a little fun at ourselves.  Felicia is a gamer and I think knows the people in this circle very well.  I think that's one of the reasons the show has become such a popular thing on the net.  We get it.  Anyway, looking forward to the new season.  :)

Agreed, based on what I've seen and heard of Felicia in addition to what Kenny has talked about on his podcast and here on the forums I can't imagine there's any malevolence there. Though of course you are entitled to your opinion.

Personally I feel like each season gets better then the last :)

Good reasons there King, but to answer your questions about cops. Yeah, you're being a little naive. Having a few dozen cop and firefighter friends, I can tell you with 100% certainty that they are just people like everyone else. They can make mistakes and they can also get caught up in their lives.

But I still think your opinions are pretty cool. Maybe we had different takes because of our connection to the subject matter? I liked this season a lot because I've had some misadventures of my own that had some similarities. At the same time, while I like MMORPGs, but I've never been that deep into them. I think those who are deeper fans might see it in another light because it might look as if it were an attack on their lifestyles.

So, yeah, I think your opinions are valid, but at the same time I think you are also right about taking it a little personally. The Guild isn't a documentary, but a comedy. Comedy is often harder to laugh at when someone thinks that they are taking shots at their "people".

Perhaps I am.  It is why I'm giving the next season a chance.  Maybe my attitude will have changed since I've "retired" from MMOs for a long time.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts King.. but as others have said.. this is just a webseries/comedy. Felicia was a hard core gamer for years and still plays WOW just not as much these days. She would never offend people on purpose. Of course there is always going to be a small number of people who get offended and I guess you fall into that category. I'm heavily involved in The Guild fanbase and from their reaction 99% of them loved the 3rd season.

And yes the characters and situation are over the top, it's written that way on purpose so that people come back every week.. that's the point of a webseries, to be watched.. could you imagine watching a webseries about a group of "real" gamers??

Also because it's a webseires it's written differently then a TV show.. every episode has to have drama/action/comedy and a cliff hanger that's packed into a 5 to 7 minute episode. So lots of stuff happens very quickly.

Paragraph 1: Hmm.  So maybe I am blowing it out of proportion.  I will never know :P

Paragraph 2: Well, true enough we would not be interested in real-gamers.  That is as interesting as watching paint dry.

Paragraph 3: Maybe that's why I have issue as well, the fact that I'm forgetting they are short episodes compared to TV's usual drama.  So I will give you that point as well.  Maybe it's because it's all "stuffed" into shorter bites that it "overwhelms" me more than usual TV.

Ok, I will admit, when
Zaboo screamed like a little girl at the announcement of Codex dating the anarchist, I about died laughing.
Hilarious way to start.
