Awesome Rick!  I'd love to get a netbook sometime.

Cool Review Rick. I can see myself getting one of those at some point.

How much are these little suckers?  (Give or take)  This might actually be what I buy after my desktop, as my current laptop is just too heavy and impracticable to move all the time.

Otherwise, great review.

I think some of the Dell's start at about $200.  Quite a few in the low $300 range too - and up.

to see what people are doing with netbooks, I know a lot of people get them because they will run Apple's Mac Os-X and are way cheaper than an apple laptop

Nice little review.

I'm just starting to look at these since we have one laptop between the two of us and three kids. (Well one and a half laptops - the half only lasts for twenty minutes before overheating and shutting down)

We'll need another PC sooner or later but in the meantime I'm wondering about a netbook. At home I'm only generally online on the iPhone - my wife has the PC. The phone's great but when it comes to serious typing, it is next to useless...that and the fact that Google Docs is read only anyway.

I'm borrowing Dad's EEE at the moment, just to see how much use they are. I'm attracted to the technology but not to parting with the money :)

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

About that heating up and shutting down.

Computers SUCK!  That is they suck in air to cool themselves off.

But that means they suck in DUST too.  This dust builds up inside and especially clogs up the cooling vanes on the heatsink of the CPU.  This is more of a problem in laptops than desktops but I had a Gateway desktop that would shut down after 30 minutes until I took it apart and cleaned out the dust trapped under the fan on the CPU heat sink.

You can also gently blow compressed air in over the fans on a laptop and along the back to blow out dust.  Many laptops are tricky to actually take apart.  A base with fans in it that elevates the laptop can help too.

Tricky to take apart?   Nahhhh...screwdriver is all you need.  Just RIP it out.  I disassembled an old laptop - man, look at all those tiny little parts. :)

LOL!  But did you put it back together?  That's the tricky part.  ;)

That is the trouble with laptops.  Different makes and models have different tricks to get them apart.  Each one is easy when you know the trick but there are so damn many of them.

I hate laptops.  Except for my Panasonic Toughbook.  I could smash windshields with it and it would still work.
