Yesterday I was thinking about movies which shoulda, coulda had a sequel- but didn't. In some cases the endings even set up the sequel. I can think of three off the bat:

Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension.
The Iron Giant
Godzilla (1997)

What movie(s) have you always wanted a sequel too? A brief plot suggestion would be good too, if you wish.

My apologies if this has been posted before. :)

x2 on Buckaroo! Great, underrated movie that had sequel written all over it.

I was always disappointed that Ralph Bakshi didn't make the follow-up to his animated Lord Of The Rings.  It had problems, but I still like the movie very much.
Another follow-up I would have loved to see would be the continuation of the saga 'Logans Run'.  That was a series of 3 books (at the time), and a followup movie would have been great.
The other side of the coin - Sequels that I wish they have NOT made:
Return To The Planet Of The Apes..... (although I loved the first 2).
Species 2 (even though I can't take my eyes off Natasha H.)

Here are some sequals that I would have loved to have seen

Big Trouble in Little China-   Give me more Jack Burton!
Unbreakable-    Loved this movie and deserved a sequal
True Lies-     all kind of sequal talk but never happened.

But the actual film was so different from the book, it was a standalone. Great movie though and in need of a remake!

Too right! At the end of the first movie they even dropped the name of the sequel! (BB and the World Crime League) WTHeck?

This may be too new to say "never happened" because I still have hope, and I think they messed up the first one by trying to do it all in one, but the "hitchhikers guide" series deserves a good treatment.

A few:  "Dune", "Buckaroo Banzai", "Daredevil" (I liked it), "Krull" (an old favorite of mine).

Yes to Unbreakable!  Loved that film, although I was disappointed in the abrupt ending.

"Unbreakable", which was definitely underrated.

2 more would be John Carpenters' "The Thing" and "They Live". Either of these franchises could still do with a sequel.

They Live!  What a great idea.  Rowdy Roddy Piper was a riot.  "I have come to chew bubble-gum and kick @ss....and I'm allllll out of bubble-gum......"

I guess there's always hope for a sequel, no matter how long:

Tron Legacy - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/

Props to Rowdy Roddy. Not academy award material, but i thought he did a great job anyway.
