Jen - Sarek is a wonderful book! One of my all time favorite Trek books. You will enjoy it much more than Spock's World.

I just bought a book called THE CALLING by David Mack. It's his first original non-Trek book and it looks really good. The story is about a guy who hears people's prayers and answers them until one day he hears the prayers of a young girl in distress and it leads to danger. It's a fantasy thriller I suppose. If you have never read any of David Mack's Star Trek books you are missing some of the best Trek books ever written.

Just wondered, did you ever hear of Wolfgang Hohlbein? He mostly writes fantasy, many books with lots of pages. I think he would have occupied a whole meter in the school library, if they weren't rented all the time. It's funny, I always assumed he was an US writer, but he's German.

Reading 'Shadowplay' by Tad Williams - fantasy, 2nd book in new trilogy. 'Shadowmarch' was the first,

Been on a hard-core Star Wars streak lately.  After finishing the second Legacy Of The Force book, I read Karen Travis' Clone Wars novel No Prisoners.  Even though it's based on the cartoon series, the book was surprisingly deep.  It was full of Travis' trademark military realism & grittiness, as well as her unique ability to take the reader into the heads of her characters.  It was great to see many questions I have about the premise of the TV series voiced by her characters.

I now plan on re-reading her Republic Commando books.

Now rereading tLotR ... Finished Hobbit and on 2nd to last chapter of Fellowship.  Actually reading the same old paperbacks as the first time  'round as a kid; one of the few things I still own.

YES.

I'm not sure what I enjoy more; the epic story that unfolds in the series, or the fact that it reaches out to involve nearly every other book that King has written.  I grew up a fan of his work, so each time there was a cameo from one of his other novels, I felt like I'd stumbled onto a bit of unexpected treasure.

I just wish the series didn't end.  But in a way, I guess it doesn't.  ;)

I finished "The Wolves of the Callah" a couple of months ago. It was a good story. I've been a fan of his Dark Tower series since the beginning. Glad to know others enjoy it too.:)

Well said. I get that same feeling when I read his books. The inter-connection between some of his stories may be something he borrowed from H.P. Lovecraft, who is also one of his favorite authors.

Just finished the movie novelization. I really enjoyed the added exposition for certain scenes but something about the writing just felt off. I can't quite place it.

*EDIT* Guess it helps if I identify WHICH movie novelization I'm talking about. The new Star Trek film. Novelization by Alan Dean Foster.

I finally finished "Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin, and now I'm reading "Deadeye Dick" by Kurt Vonnegut. It's so strange shifting from the heavy atmosphere of Martin's fantasy world to Vonnegut's darkly comic style.

The latest Fate of the Jedi series "Abyss".

I'm enjoying Blackest Night, the DC Green Lantern event comic.  Also starting to reread the Neil Gaiman Sandman collections for the fifth time.  I just finished the Preacher series, and found that series a bit overhyped in my opinion, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be for so many years.

also, I am a HUGE Stephen King fan, including the Dark Tower novels.  I've loved the recent comic adaptations of DT and the Stand, and I can't freaking wait for the new comic adaptation of the Talisman that is coming soon.
