I have lower speed dsl at my house.  A half mile north from me, they are limited to dial up only. Normally at home I surf from my iphone.
I'm guessing that they don't allow Fios in your location either right?

Wow - no cable.  Ever think about satellite?

I do have a dish and I have their $10 locals only package that works fine over 90% of the time.  The only problem is when the clouds get thick between the dish and the bird, the signal starts to scramble and ultimately is lost until the storm passes.

This is the time I really need to see local weather.  Up until now, I would just watch my over the air stuff.  But with digital no station is reliable.  And is also affected by the weather.

As far as TV, I have a huge DVD and VHS collection that keeps me entertained.  I'm not home that much so I don't really feel like I'm missing anything.  And I can watch Hulu over the internet.

I've had other packages but I found myself just watching rented movies or internet video so I just decided I didn't need to pay for an expanded cable package.

I have an easy enough solution for you.

The first is check your dish and make sure that it's properly adjusted. There are ways to get more signal so that when you lose some, you still get enough for the picture.

The second is just jumping on the weather channel web site when the storm comes.

Here is the final solution:

they send weather alerts directly to your phone.

Radio Shack used to also sell these special radios with a special weather band channel on them I think.  Maybe look into that too.
