New show is up all about Western themed Sci-Fi TV and films.  Again, had a lot of fun in this one and hope you all enjoy it.  Thanks especially to those that sent in comments.

Western Sci Fi - YEEHAW!

Being a big fan of Firefly, I was looking forward to this weeks podcast!
The old west rebel mixed with a space fairing but fractured society  was a great idea and had many years of stories to tell.

Not long ago I watched West World again after reading an article that mentioned it was first major movie to use computer enhanced effects - the pixelated vision of the gun slinger.
It was great to see a dark haired, "long and lanky" Majel Barret in a couple of scenes too.

While West World and Serenity shared a dark theme of science run amok.
The "Steam Punk" gadgets of The Wild, Wild West and Back to the Future 3 where a lot of fun.

I wanna be a Robot Gunslinger Cowboy

words, music and recording by Rick Moyer

Growin up we lived a long way out of town
so I made up a world that I could live in
the Dog was my partner and I ran the show
if you're lucky I'd let you win

I wanna be a robot gunslinger cowboy
Like Yul Brenner

I watched Westworld and it that glued me to my seat
searched high and low and put my cowboy boots on my feet
picked up my cap gun and I ran outside to the lawn
I was Yule brenner the robot so I wrote you this song

I wanna be a robot gunslinger cowboy
Like Yul Brenner

I'd pull my gun and shoot at my foe
My eyes they sparkled with that android like glow
I'd chase 'em down like I was malfunctioning
Wearing black and sporting my sling...

I wanna be a robot gunslinger cowboy
Like Yul Brenner

A little part of me
wanted some robot circuitry

I wanna be a robot gunslinger cowboy
Like Yul Brenner

Excellent show Rico. Hopefully in the future we will get a entire show just for Firefly/Serenity. And here, for more Western Sci-Fi goodness, take a look at Muse's "Knights Of Cydonia" music video. Its a pretty cool geek fest, especially if you like old Sci-Fi and Westerns.

I doubt it has been "officially released" on DVD.  But sometimes you can find "bootleg" DVD's on eBay of old TV series or even by Googling.

Oh - I found it here:

I have bought from these guys before and they were reliable.  Got my "Man From Atlantis" set from them I think.

Strange, can't find a UK release even though the packaging has a UK BBFC certificate on it. The US website says it is region 0 though!  ;D

Might not be legit though -  ooops Rico beat me to it!

Just to let you know, these are typically DVD's made from the video tapes of the broadcast episodes.  Normally commercials are edited out and the quality is ok - but of course that can vary.  The sets I have gotten are very watchable and personally since they are decades old and not out on DVD I see no problem in buying these.

All this talk about Westworld has got me wanting to watch it again! I don't think I have ever seen Futureworld, is it any good?

Wouldn't mind seeing the TV series either.

moyer777

I downloaded both Futureworld and Westworld on Itunes.  They were great.  Westworld is a tad bit better... but hey.

One of my first Sci-fi adventures long ago was Westworld.  Haven't seen it since way back when.  I should rent it - but wonder if it's too dated / corny now.  Totally loved it way back then!
