The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has chosen Australian actor and People Magazine's 2008 "Sexiest Man Alive" Hugh Jackman to host the 81st Annual Academy Awards says the Associated Press.

Though the awards have generally been hosted by comedians in the past, producers Larry Mark and Bill Condon plan to get rid of the joke-telling portion of the show this year including the signature opening monologue. The awards themselves are said to have been revamped from top to bottom for next year's ceremony which takes place on February 22nd.

Jackman himself scored rave reviews when he hosted the Tony Awards from 2003 to 2005.

When he hosted the 2004 Tony's, he seriously rocked it.  In fact, I cheered when he won the Emmy for that because it was deserved.  If the Oscars are like that, then I'm quite excited.

Hugh Jackman seems to be a great guy and is very gracious - especially with the fans.  I think this is a great choice.
