I love these "end of the world" disaster movies.

This is the first that I heard of this one "2012"

Cusack Sees World's End In "2012"
By Garth FranklinTuesday, May 20th 2008 9:02am

John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor are in negotiations to star in Roland Emmerich's $200 million apocalyptic epic "2012" for Sony Pictures reports the trades.

The disaster film centers on a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Cusack is in talks to play divorced dad, writer and sometime limo driver Jackson Curtis, who goes on a heroic journey to save his family.

Ejiofor plays Adrian Helmsley, an idealistic science adviser to the president who also becomes a hero.

Emmerich is directing a script he penned with his "10,000 BC" co-writer Harald Kloser. Shooting begins in Los Angeles this July for release next July.

Looks like an interesting movie.  There a lot of folks out there who believe that it is a significant date. Link>> http://www.december212012.com/

Has some similar elements to the remake of War of the World

next year seems the year of the epic disaster movie again... okay there are only two films that I know of coming out with that theme in mind but I'm sure there will be more.

I saw the trailer today while watching 'Day The Earth Stood Still'.  The trailer was pretty good, but I have my doubts about the movie.  I will try to be cautiously optimistic!

I thought the teaser trailer was really creepy for some reason.  Maybe it was the music along with the thought of water coming over what I assume to be the Himalayan mountains.   Just crazy to think about.

All I can say is, "Wow!"

I'm definitely going to see it in the theater.

"2012" Delayed To November
By Garth FranklinWednesday, January 21st 2009 12:10am

Sony Pictures has pushed back the release of Roland Emmerich's disaster epic "2012" by several months - from July 10th to November 13th says The Hollywood Reporter.

"We've had such success with the James Bond films in November that we wanted a big tentpole film in that slot this year. We've got so many films in the summer that this is the perfect answer to that" says Sony distribution president Rory Bruer.

The new date will also add some extra time for the effects-laden production. The film is now set to open two weekends before the lucrative Thanksgiving session, the action epic will open opposite Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes" and Fox's "The Tooth Fairy".

The move leaves the romantic comedy "I Love You Beth Cooper" as the sole wide release on July 10th, though with this move that's expected to quickly change.

Those effects are quite incredible.  Hope the story can match the look.  Looks like a must see for me still.

SPOCKFAN

That was a pretty impressive trailer. You never know with movies like this though. I am not a big Roland Emmerich fan. He is hit and miss. Didn't like Godzilla or 10,000 BC. But Liked Independance Day and The Day after Tommorow. It is promising that John Cusack is in the movie.

PepperDude

Spockfan, you're right that Emmerich is hit or miss. I hope this movie turns out to be a hit.

Great looking trailer, bit concerned that they think a building would roll when it toppled over but hey ho

Jobydrone

Haven't watched the trailer, but I'm wondering how the world can end and there be survivors.
