Just uploaded show #61.  I look at a classic TREK episode this week and do a full episode commentary on it.  Hope you like this new method I'm trying out.

I just listened to #61 seeing first the episode normally and seeing it again with the sound coming from the podcast - worked very well.

There were 4  interesting points I would like to highlight about the episode:
1- funny to see how the yeowoman was intimate with Kirk... not only she asks for an embrace that he provides (in the bridge!) but also their hands touch while shaking from the blast and neither of the two seem to feel awkward; and also is natural for her to enter in Kirk's quarter, pretensely to offer him a coffee, and when McCoy finds her there, no one sees any problem...

2- observe the look that Sulu gives to Uhura when she sits at his side when replacing the helmsman...

3- a glitch on a series that is presumably scientific: everybody was whispering both at Enterprise and the romulan ship, and Kirk asks Spock to repair "quietly"... is OK to avoid noises on a submarine hiding because destroyers use mikes to locate them. But there is no need for special silence on the destroyer, much less on any ship in space, as sound does not propagate in the vacuum.

4 - Federation initial position was (as Kirk announces to all ship) that everything, Enterprise and outposts, is expendable for the sake of the treaty - but afterwards they say they stand by whatever Kirk decides - how inconsistent!!

A wonderfull episode! Really full of significant points: the suspicion by the looks - a kind of racism; the romulan captain position of not wanting another war; and the though that is being a leader and making life-and-death decisions.

I look forward to Inner Light review - as I said when you asked for our preferred episode, my choice of all ST series.

Live long, keep up, prosper and happy 4th !!!

Thanks for the comments Ric.  Some interesting points.  Glad the commentary seemed to work well this way.  Will probably try it again that way sometime.

I noticed those same things about this episode, especially the whole sound thing, that confused the heck out of me. Regardless of the flaws, I love this episode. One of my all time favourites.
"Do a barrel roll" - Peppy, StarFox 64
"Coincidence... I think NOT!" - Bear, Polkadot Shorts

Neat way to do the show.  I liked it.

I loved the way you did the show this week Rico....Very Cool
I think it was Socrates who spoke the immortal words:  I drank WHAT?

RicSantiago

Yes. let's give them some allowance for the glitches, this was an episode from the first season, they were still paving the ground.

A good episode, indeed.

Rico

Yeah, definitely a classic episode.  I will try this ongoing commentary again sometime I'm sure.  Kind of liked it.

:thumbsup I really liked the new format.. I know you were just trying it out but I think it turned out great. I'm not a huge TOS fan but I recently saw this episode so I actually knew what you were talking about.. great job.

Again, I finally caught up on some of the podcasts, and I really enjoy the new format. I also think it's great how you're going to switch it up from week to week. Because I like both ways. The new way reminds me of how the official Star Trek podcast does it. It's great. The other way has a great advantage of you being able to say a lot more about the episode because your not restricted by anything. Great great GREAT!

OK, I know I'm still dredging up old stuff here as I go through the history of TSF but bear with me...

The one thing that I can never get round in this episode is the torpedo/depth charge-like 'phasers'. Up until now, whenever I've seen it, I've always concentrated on that as a continuity issue which detracts from my enjoyment of the episode overall. I know it's an early one, but still...

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Rico

The weapons were still being worked out at this point.  Later on with photon torpedoes this worked itself out.  Still one of my favorite episodes of all time.

Listening to this podcast revealed that to me. I think it's the first time I've really paid attention to the full story rather than griping about the effects. It is good - I must watch it properly now.
