In an upcoming podcast, I will be convincing a special guest to watch BSG. This person is a listener and enjoys the show, but she doesn't watch BSG. She has admitted to being intrigued, but not convinced she should watch. After I record a mini-debate with her, I plan to have her watch the miniseries and then record her reaction.

If you have any persuasive reasons why my mom should watch Battlestar Galactica, send them to girlygeekz@gmail.com. I'll need all the ammo I can get. She's not at all into sci-fi, but apparently is hooked on our discussions about the show.... She can't believe it would be that deep.

We will be recording the Great BSG Debate, this week so if you have any ideas send them today or tomorrow. Thanks, wish me luck!

Wow - great idea!  Tell her the story and acting are just top notch.  And it's not a real technobabble type SF show (which seems to turn off some women - men too sometimes).  Maybe try and find some good audio clips to play that really show the acting and emotions these BSG folks go through.  What it means to be human and all that.  I admire your tackling this idea.

Jen

Thanks for the ideas Rico. She seemed to brighten a bit when I told her that Edward James Almos was the star. I hope that she likes the mini-series... I'm afraid it won't grab her interest.

It's interesting to me, but the mini-series really didn't grab me a lot.  Only when it went to a regular weekly show did I get really hooked on it.  But it is hard to not start with the mini-series.

Jen

Yes, especially since she doesn't want to invest a lot of time in watching it. When I told her I wanted her to watch the mini series, she was hesitant because she didn't want to watch something that long. When I explained that it was probably about the same length as a regular movie she was fine with it. Her biggest hurdle is Six and the scene she heard Angela and I describe where she snapped the baby's neck. She thought that the writers shouldn't have written that in... We'll rehash that during the podcast, I'm sure.

Why dont you show her Razor instead, as I think the Mini series was the weakest of the whole series.

Good Luck with your quest to get your Mom to watch Battlestar Galactica. I wish I had some convincing arguments for you, but all my reasons for liking it are probably what make ladies run screaming from it ;).

You and Angela are doing a great Job, I enjoyed the podcast about your celebrity encounters. Felt bad for Rico as my meeting with Robert Picardo went slightly better then his, and I was able to get a picture with Robert. The Dax podcast was great as well, as that was the first time I had ever heard anyone talk at length about ezri. looking forward to the next podcast.

Jen

Thanks Jeff. :)

John, I don't own Razor and I don't think she'd be too keen on Captain Ro Laren. Though it's not the best, l think the Mini Series would be a better introduction as it explains the show's premise.

I think this is a wonderful idea Jen.  How cool, I can't wait to hear the podcast.  Very interesting, and a great creative concept.

I think I would entice her by talking about the religious aspect of it all.  How it is a very interesting commentary on our society and how we relate with different ideas and ways of dealing with differences.  It is a classic story of good and evil, but the lines get blurred at times, because we see the evil and good in both sides at times.

Have fun, I look forward to listening.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

I'm curious but is your mom a Trek fan at all?

Meds

You could use reverse your idea and get your mum on the podcast and ask why she doesn't want to watch it. Then you can have a conversation with you giving your reasons why she should watch it and then your mum saying why she won't watch it. That way you'll have a mother and daughter friendly debate. Playing the scfi channel what the freck advert would be a good idea as well.

Nope. She's not a hater, but she's not a fan of any sci-fi genre. She did encourage me when I was a little girl, by buying me Star Wars and Star Trek toys... but she was never into shows and movies that featured aliens or space ships. My dad is a John Wayneish, root'n toot'n Texas cowboy... but it was his influence that sparked my fascination with Sci-fi. Mom and I will touch on this during the podcast. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will try to use them all. :)

Thanks again for the suggestions everyone. I recorded my persuasive discussion with my mom a few days ago... I'm editing it now and will be punting it to Angela to add to the feed by the end of the week. Shoosh, it's a lot of work to do these. Especially when you have other priorities.  So it may take a me a little longer to get them out, just so I can ensure that my life is in balance. ;) Just letting you know it's coming down the pike. We're not pod-fading.
