Thinking about a Mac...

Ok all you mackies :)   I'm considering a Mac but I hear XCode is not the best development tool/language.  All I know is what I have seen in the stores and most of it has been multimedia related.  I do have a keyboard/midi at home and if I go this route, it will likely be for writing vocal arrangments.  Also, I work on websites and other development projects for business.  Any system/software recommendations ?  I'm familiar with the Office platform but prefer getting the best bang for the buck.
