Here is some vintage Sci-Fi that is better than most Star Trek.

I haven't seen it in over 20 years.

It was pretty good, the book was more interesting.  But, I certainly wouldn't call it better than most Trek.

Look at how 60's the original Star Trek was.

Kirk was the Lone Ranger and Spock was an Uncle Tom Tom alien.  Or compare them to Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuriyakin of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.  That is why my avatar is the Mirror Spock.  I love it when he tells Kirk he has orders to kill him.  Mr. Sulu beam the ex-captain into space.

With 700+ episodes it only has to be better than 400 of them.  Wake up and smell the rest of the sci-fi universe.  LOL

The fact that they didn't air The Cage as a separate episode and then ran Man Trap as the very first episode showed that the studios wouldn't let Roddenberry do what he really wanted.  Couldn't have a female first officer so she became the wimpy Nurse Chappel.

PS - I am a Sci-Fi fan not a Star Trek fan.

DS9 was the best of the Treks but still not as good as Babylon 5.  Of course Star Wars was only good for helping to bring Trek back.   :roflmao

Only has to be better than 400 of them?  Only??  It is a matter of taste and opinion.  But I would suggest comparing a single film or book to this franchise is a bit much.  So I shall respectfully disagree with your opinion here.

I meant on an per episode or movie basis, how many were better or not as good as Lathe of Heaven.  I agree that comparing 1 3/4 hours to 500+ hours makes no sense.

Yes, and again on a per episode basis I still disagree with you.

This is a great movie.  Ursula LeGuin is a very talented writer.  Some of her fiction can be really mind bending.
Has anyone ever seen the 2002 remake of this?  I am wondering if the remake is worth a look.

I remember watching this a long time ago. As I remember it really was quite good.
I missed the remake though, unfortunately.
I like the Bab5 reference, but as far as it being better than Trek, I have to disagree with you. As good as would be more accurate in my opinion. Both had some really good and bad episodes.
You can't fairly compare TV writing and regular literature. Two/too different styles.
