Just got podcast # 160 up. This is an interview show with Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin who wrote the Trek book "Taking Wing" and many other Trek novels. Thanks again to KTrek for helping in getting this setup.

Just finished Listening, great podcast Rico. Great to hear what Andy and Michael had to say about writing for trek. Really enjoyed their insight into the ending of Enterprise. I have The Good that Men Do book, and will have to make a point to finish reading it. Thanks for doing the interview, great job

No Kenny...You can enjoy the show without having read their books but be aware that there are spoilers in the content.

Rico, Thanks VERY much for doing the interview and even getting to a couple of my questions. It was a great and fun podcast. One of your best!

We cover quite a few subjects during the discussion. I try not to restrict the conversation too much during these types of interviews. I think most Trek fans will enjoy the interview, especially if you are a fan of Trek books and comics.

Great interview. I liked their insights into Trek writing and confirming my reasons for DS9 being my favourite series.

EDIT: Additional fun comment: it was nice to hear the "classic" podcast intro. Don't know why but that track from Generations makes me feel happy.

Ok, here we go, this is just one of the many reasons I love your podcast Rico.

1. I learned a bunch about the world of Trek
2. I laughed a lot.
3. I loved hearing about the creative process.
4. You did a great job of letting them share.
5. I feel more rounded as a fan now!

Actually I just started wondering, where did you learn how to interview Rico? It's not a trivial skill and you seem pretty good at it.

Thanks for the compliments. Also glad you enjoyed the "classic" intro music theme. One of my favorite bits of Trek movie music. As far as interviewing skill, it's basically a combination of things. I've done it a few times over the years and a few things I picked up learning to be a teacher (my first post college vocation). I've also watched a lot of people interview on news programs, and listened to many radio shows and podcasts. I have found it helps to be friendly and have prepared a bit - but not too much. Typically the people you interview want to talk and your job is to listen and steer them a bit. Plus it helps to enjoy the subject matter. Glad you guys enjoyed the show.

Great podcast and it actually made me want to out and get a couple of Trek books for the first time. I haven't really read a Trek novel but the Enterprise novels sound great and I can't wait until the Kobayashi Maru book is released.

I have to agree with Darth Gaos about the interview inspiring a desire to read more Trek books. I've mostly read only Next Gen era books up until now, but hearing the writers talk about what's going on in the Enterprise books has really gotten me interested.

I'm particularly interested in the Kobayashi Maru story; if I remember correctly, this book is supposed to deal with events leading up to the Romulan war. This is an area of Trek history just begging to be explored!

All in all, another outstanding podcast, Rico! :thumbsup

Thanks guys about the book buying. I will pass that info on to the authors. I also went to Amazon and bought the Enterprise book we talked about too. And I have the third Titan book to read as well.

Great job! I really enjoyed the interview Rico. I have read The Good Men Do... I think I prefer it to Taking Wing. It was a VERY satisfying read.
