Yep - but most HDDVD's run about about $10 more per disc on average (DVD's about $15, HDDVD's about $25).  So I can see the math they did.  I'm counting on it being discounted quite a bit.  If it gets down to $150 or so I'll bite.  Especially since the DVD sets per season originally were about $100. each.

I am sure hoping the price drops as well. I would love these, but that price seems very high for me at this time. I guess that has always been a bit of a peeve with me, as the series of trek have always been some expensive compared to other series. They always seem double what others go for.

What I don't understand is why are they releasing them in the HD format? Isn't CBS owned by Sony who owns Blue Ray? I have a Blue Ray player and will not purchase HD as I believe it's the losing format. Just this last week Target announced they will no longer carry HD in their stores and are moving to Blue Ray. Several months back Blockbuster announced they will not carry HD but Blue Ray only. More of the movie compainies are supporting Blur Ray and less HD. Even Disney movies are Blue Ray and you know how many copies they sell of each title!

Besides that though the price is a little high for my blood. I'd be willing to pay $125.00 per season but not double that.

It's WAY too early to talk about a winner or loser in the HDDVD/Blu ray format war...with that great price on amazon I may have to bite and get myself the $179 HDDVD drive for my xbox 360 and grab season 1.

To me there is only so much they can improve on the pic quality. The sound may get better but I ask you, how many people are trying to get DTS quality from a show made in the 60's?
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

They did remaster all the old shows and added the new digital effects.  Of course some people are so-so on the new effects.  But the cleaned up shows are going to look much better in HD.
