I've been tempted to get a Mac for a long while now.  I even tried a Macmini more than a year ago but found it underpowered.  I'm getting tempted again by the new Mac's that just came out with the brushed aluminum cases.  My big question is, I heard they "dumbed down" iMovie and that is the version that would come with this Mac.  But I also heard you can maybe download the old iMovie and use that instead.  Does anyone know for sure on this?

Jen

I'm sure you can find an older version of iLife somewhere online...maybe on Ebay. Which model are you considering?

Rico, this has brought a tear of joy to my eye... :) I can get you ANY version of ANY software you need for the Mac, just ask. I have my "sources" in Mac pirate land! The new iMacs are soooo sweet, especially the 24" one.

Jen

Oooh Bryan...I have need for such software myself. :)

Hehe!  I knew you would approve Bryan.  I'm really not anti-Apple (well maybe just the overhyped iPhone).  Love the iPod and I do think the computers have some nice things to offer too.  But, I'll never give up my PC.  This would just be an additional machine.  I'm not certain yet when/if I will get one.  But I'll be sure to let everyone know here if I do.

Glad to hear your considering a mac. Welcome to the darkside......Bwa ha ha ha haaaaa!

But seriously they do grow on you, I use both - my mac G5 at home and my trusty HP PC at work.

I do like my macbook pro. But the aluminum cases get very hot.

As far as iMovie goes, I'm new to the whole "burning my own DVDs" and "Making movies, etc" thing, so I don't have a clue about that.

I do know I get a little impatient waiting for videos to process and import, etc. But I don't know if it would happen on all machines, not just this one.

You Macbook Pro has an aluminum case?

Bryancd

Mac Book Pro's all have aluminum cases. Jen, just shot me a PM and let me know what you need!

I am Kind of like you Rico. I have a Mac Mini that I use for things like making videos, and other creative type things, but for the most part my PC is what I use day in and day out. I like my mac a lot, and maybe someday get a more powerful one, but I dont ever see it replacing my PC.

Really?  No plastic in those pretty white cases??

Bryancd

Your confusing the Mac Book with the Mac Book Pro (the old Powerbook). The Mac Book is the lower end laptop and comes in a white or black plastic case. The Pro is all brushed aluminum. If you don't need a lap top, get the iMac, it's a great machine with a great desing and awesome screen.

Rico

Yep - I was confusing those.  Didn't the older Mac Books (I guess I mean Power Books) all come in plastic?  I thought that white plastic was an Apple standard?  ;)

Jen

Yep, the old ones were all plastic and the iBooks still are. The pros are aluminum. The Power PCs are super heavy, hard case aluminum too. My G5 tower is as heavy as a car. It's heavy, but reel purdy.  :ohbaby
