I don't really want to fuel this debate but Paramount (which means TREK) has now announced they are going exclusively HDDVD.  Dreamworks animation has also joined them in this.  So content is pretty much split down the middle now.  Again, in my opinion the only answer is to have both players.  But, that's my viewpoint.  I know many feel that they only want one format.  But I look around my house and I see, vinyl records, cassette tapes, CD's, VHS tapes, DVD's, video games from many different systems so this is just a couple more types of media to own.  I'm actually excited by all this high quality stuff coming out.  And I'll be watching both Sony movies and Paramount stuff in some HD format before long.

The Nice thing about the HD DVD format is that they can put the HD DVD on one side and DVD on the other. Recently I picked up 300, and even though I dont have an HDDVD player, I am still able to watch the movie, and I don't feel like I will have to rebuy it again (well at least in the next few years ;) )
I do think they need to make some sort of decision at some point on Formats, as I think it could hurt DVD sales, as people might not buy any DVD's period. I think possibly for HD DVD being able to to have both DVD and HD on the same disc could give it a bit of an advantage on slow adopters, or people will already have the disc and decide to go with the HDDVD player.
