Hi Guys,

Since I am new, bare with me in case I have repeated something someone has already said.
I collect all and I mean ALL the STAR TREK AUDIO books.  I really like the ones with Kirk, that he has helped write.   I have never felt he was dead, as he came back in the books and is still around.
Has anyone else out there read or listened to these?  I know they are not "core" but they good enough to keep TREK going I think.

I am also very much into DUNE and all the books before and after.  I love Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke.  I would very much love to hear what some of you guys are reading!  Thanks for making me feel so welcome.  Your a great bunch of people

I've never listened to an SF audio book but I plan to download one from audible.com this week.

I've never read Dune. . .and there are so many of the books that I don't know where to continue after the first book if I get to read it.

I finished reading Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy over two months ago. I liked it a lot.   :metallica:  It was so good that I was going to post a favorable review that I could online.  Unfortunately, I didn't come across a review that the Trilogy justice.  I was surprised that there were many unfavorable reviews.  People need to remember that the books were written in the 1950's. . .I guess I should have written a review of my own but I've just never written one and it's kinda' too late now.  :-\  There were many great twists at the end of the Trilogy.  It was a great read.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  Foundations is awesome but just about anything Asimov wrote is great.
DUNE is my favorite.  Sometimes I think Frank Herbert could see into the future.  Many of the lead characters from the book can be seen in our world now and many of the happenings could be seen as things that have happened or are going on right now.  (Just my opinion)

Arthur C Clarke is another good one.  My favorite is "The Light of Other Days"  This company builds a worm hole cam and after some time it gets out into the main stream population, everyone can see what everyone else is doing at any time, anyplace, anywhere.  So privacy is no more.  Then they are able to use it to go backwards on DNA and look at how  humans started, going back to their very beginnings.  Of course you have to throw in some romance and a bad guy and more stuff and you have one great book but I listen to them, I seem to get more out of them that way.  Sci Fi can be complicated with the explanations of theories and ideas.

My mind has to be busy reading, listening to audio tapes or music.  I cant be idol but I can clean house and wash cloths while I listen, makes the job go much faster and with much more pleasure.
After all, books and fiction are fine but dirty cloths and a hungry family tend to get in the way of my pleasure or could it be the other way around?

My wife uses her ipod all the time while she is doing housework.  She downloads a lot of books and listens.  It does help the time pass and makes her much happier!

I found a cool ipod speaker boom box, and it does the trick.

She has listened to a bunch of the trek books, and loves Pride and Prejudice, Tom Sawyer, etc.

She listens to a few podcasts as well.  I load up mine for her, and then she listens to Rico's and a couple of others.

Fun fun!

Nice to have you on the boards Liz.

The Light of Other Days does sound like a very interesting book.

I highly recommend the book or audio tape/cd.  So many things happen, the story is so interesting.
In the book, people use worm holes to look at their past, their neighbors, their politicians, Rome, Moses, Robin Hood, Jesus, finding out what really happened in the past compared to what we thought happened (in the book).    This tiny description only hints at whats inside!

If you do get it, I would love to hear what you think about it!  The only thing better than a good book, is sharing it with someone!
