Finally, the long wait is over and Season Three of “Doctor Who” arrives on U.S. television this coming Friday, July 6 at 8/7C on the SCI FI Channel. And, this week we get a double back-to-back dose of the good Doctor (David Tennant) and his new companion (Freema Agyeman).

Catch the 90-minute special “The Runaway Bride” at 8/7C, followed by the season premiere with new companion Martha Jones. It’s a 2 and one-half hour Who, Who night!

"The Runaway Bride" I had caught online but I watched the premiere "Smith & Jones" on Friday night on Sci-Fi and I must say that it is GREAT to have the Doctor back.  I loved it and cannot wait until next Firday when they meet up with Mr Shakespeare.

"The Shakespeare Effect" I think was the name this past Friday's episode of Dr. Who....another great episode....and well timed ironically enough here in the States I might add with the wonderful nods to JK Rowling and the Harry Potter franchise.  Awesome show....it's a shame I did not get into any of the past incarnations of this show.

I won't give anything away, but I have now managed to catch all of season 3 and loved it.  Some great episodes in the mix and I still love David Tennant as the Doctor.  Oh, the last few episodes are especially wonderful.

If you can remain calm when all around you are panicking, you probably didn't understand the question

I loved "Blink".. one of my favorite.. but of course it was since it was written by Steven Moffat. Who wrote my favorite from season one and two.

Who Writer Addresses Rumors

Steven Moffat, who has written some of the most memorable episodes of the BBC's new Doctor Who, told SCI FI Wire that fans have no cause to worry that the rumored departure of executive producer Russell T. Davies at the end of the fourth season will mean the end of the franchise, but he did not deny the rumor.

"I know that there's tremendous anxiety among Doctor Who fans about the future of Doctor Who," Moffat said in an interview at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting his upcoming BBC America series, Jekyll. "Here's an answer that people should listen to. No broadcaster lets go of a show like Doctor Who. They'd have to be out of their f--king minds."

The new iteration of Doctor Who premiered in 2005 and just completed its third season in the United Kingdom. Each season has seen a major casting change, and the fourth one will be no exception. Catherine Tate has been announced as the Doctor's new companion, reprising the role of Donna Noble from last year's Christmas special, The Runaway Bride.

Moffat pointed out that Doctor Who has managed to remain popular despite these changes and that the show is bigger than one person.

"If Doctor Who demonstrates anythingâ€"any simple truth about televisionâ€"it's that everyone is dispensable," he said. "Doctor Who is probably there forever. It will probably outlive everyone on [fan Web site] Outpost Gallifrey. That's probably the truth. I'm not saying that it will run continuously for 20 years. They might give it a rest for a while, but I wouldn't imaging Doctor Who would rest for very long now. But Doctor Who is completely safe. It's not in great danger. It's been the center of British culture since Kennedy was shot. I mean, it's not going away. Look, they turned it to s--t and took it off for 15 years, and that didn't kill it. I mean, what's going to kill it now? Success?"

When asked if he might be the one to take over should Davies leave the show, Moffat appeared slightly uncomfortable. "Next question," he answered after a long pause. "There's a lot of things to think about there." The third season of Doctor Who is currently running on SCI FI Channel Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. â€"Cindy White

“Doctor Who” & “Torchwood” DVD News

who3dvd.jpgThe third-series of “Doctor Who” could be out on DVD as early as November 2007, according to TV Shows on DVD.

The set is still being worked on and sources at BBC America so there’s not much to report on how many discs it will run or what the extras will be. If it’s anything like the last two sets, this set should be extra-heavy.

There was also no announcement if this release might be a simultaneous release in the U.S. and the U.K., marking only the second time in the “Doctor Who” DVD line this has happened (The previous was Tom Baker’s “City of Death” to tie-in with the release of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” movie since both are written by Douglas Adams.)

The third-season of “Doctor Who” continues Friday evenings on SCI FI in the United States.

torchwood1dvd.jpgIn related “Doctor Who” universe news, the spin-off series “Torchwood” will debut on DVD in the United States on January 8, 2008.

“Torchwood,” is a spin-off series about a secret group that deals with alien incursions on Earth. The first-season of the show was a huge hit in the U.K. and will debut later this year on BBC America in the United States. The series is a bit more adult in content and themes than “Doctor Who” and definitely targeted to a more mature audience.

Another creation from Russell T. Davies, “Torchwood” stars John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Burn Gorman, Naoki Mori, Gareth David-Lloyd and Kai Owen.

“Doctor Who” Series Three Official Release Date?

http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2007/08/07/doctor-who-series-three-official-release-date?/

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)

American fans rejoiceâ€"November 6, 2007 has been confirmed as the release date for “Doctor Who: The Complete Third Series.” The six-disc set will feature all 13 episodes from series three as well as a lot of great extras (no confirmation yet on what they are, though we can assume there will be full-length commentaries for every episode based on the last two releases).

Warner Brothers has released the cover art for the region one set, which differs from the cover arts for the region 2 sets. (The first time with the new series this has happened).

The third series will retail for $99.98 (USD) when it’s released.

Looking at all the great genre releases coming up in November, it looks like I am going to have to start selling plasma in order to afford everything I want that month. Well, at least it’s not too close to a big spending season….oh wait…

Don't forget.... Season Three of the New Doctor Who comes out tomorrow (Tuesday) on DVD. The Season 3 DVD includes all 13 episodes on a six-disc set with deleted scenes and commentary.
