Not sure if this has been posted somewhere but...

Edward James Olmos has said in a magazine interview that Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica will be the last season.  You can check it out here

This may just confirm what many of us have figured....or it may not but Edward James Olmos I would think would be a good source.

If true...sad but not surprising

I haven't read anything online.. but I'll take a look..

But as you said.. it's no surprise if it is.. I mean they barely got the full season for the fourth year. But then again if BSG season four is  a huge hit!!!!

So long as there is nothing like a BSG '80 thing......**shudders**

I, for one, love this, that they are setting definitive dates for these shows. By knowing how long each will last, I think they will get more viewers, and be able to make more genre shows. Yes, it's sad to lose BSG and LOST, but how cool would it be to see a limited run at a re imagining of Blake's 7, or get invested in the three season arc of whatever? We could theoretically have MORE scifi shows if this is the model they go to, and they could be of higher quality, because they won't have to pad the seasons. Wouldn't X-Files have been better if it was only 4 seasons? I say Yes.

I love BSG. But I have also stated elsewhere that I enjoy finite series. It allows more people to invest right from the start, and will drive viewer ship up.

Flight of Battlestar Continues

Battlestar Galactica's search for Earth continues to be an open-ended adventure, according to show executive producer David Eick.

Contrary to comments by Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama) at the recent Saturn Awards, no end has been announced for the award-winning show. Battlestar is preparing to film its fourth season, one that will include 22 episodes rather than the previously announced 13.

"For those of you who have been paying attention over the years, this is not the first time Eddie has made an announcement about the possibility of the show's end," chuckled Eick. I promise you that when Ron and I make a decision about Galactica's future, we'll let you know."

Yep - nothing official yet.  I think they could do five seasons - easy.  I just hope if only one season is left, they get a chance to wrap it up well.

Didn't Ron Moore say as much on one of his last podcasts? I could have sworn he said saeson 4 will be the last and the entire story would be brought to a conclusion.

Well it's offical... not a real surprise.. but  still sad news.

It’s Official â€" BSG Goes Bye Bye After Season 4

After months of debate over whether or not the upcoming season of “Battlestar Galactica” would be the last, we can confirm today that the fourth season will be the last for the hit SciFi show.

In a press-release, exeutive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick issued the following statement.

“This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms,” Eick and Moore said in the statement. “And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there â€"- we’re going out with a bang .”

The fourth and final season of “Battlestar” will run 22 episodes and begin airing early in 2008.

Yeah I had read that this morning also.  Good...maybe there won;t be as many (if any) stand-alone episodes....not that they aren't good but I prefer the eps that move the primary story along.

I feel a bit disappointed by this news. I do see where they want to end the story, and the Writers feel thay can do that. I guess for me, I felt that there is a lot more to be explored before they reach earth. Even though the Original lasted for one year, and Galactica 80 had them reaching earth, It always gave me the sense that the Journey to Earth was a long undertaking. The way the storyline is going for the new Galactica, I feel that in the end, they journey will not be all that long.

Rico

I wish it had at least two more seasons.  I really think one more year will make the conclusions to things feel rushed.  But I do predict even after season 4 we will see more of the new Galactica in some form.

Perhaps this will leave an opening for the caprica series.

I read recently that Moore isn't too hopeful for the Caprica project. :(

BSG’s Final Season Episode Will Leave Some Unanswered Questions

Ronald D. Moore, “Battlestar Galactica” Executive Producer, said that the end of the Peadbody Award winning show has always been in the crosshairs of he and fellow producer David Eick’s sites, and by the middle of Season Three knew the end was near.

“We thought, if we don’t start paying this off and really revealing those secrets, we’ll be moving in the wrong direction and get to a place where it felt like we were jerking off the audience,” Moore said at a news conference on Friday.

“This is a decision that took some time to arrive at,” Eick said. “There was a number of questions internally and a creative agenda we wanted to serve, and we all had to collectively decide when to be definitive about it, and that time is now.”

No real details were given by Moore and Eick concerning the series’ final episode, which will be aired in 2008. But, Moore did say that they are negotiating with Lucy Lawless to have her return as D’Anna Biers and fans of the show will “get to see Earth” in that last episode. He also indicated that, although most of the loose ends will be tied up before series end, they have intentionally let some issues remain unresolved in order to “leave some things open to the imagination.” Do we smell movie deal? Moore won’t speculate except to say “Never say never.”

And, just as we have already reported on one of our shows, Moore and Eick added they haven’t received word from the SCI FI Channel yet on any pickup for “Caprica,” the anticipated prequel of “Battlestar Galactica” which was first announced in early 2006.

Sounds like they could be angling for a TV or feature film project. Dollars to donuts says Ron Moore would love to get a feature film deal.
