Quick someone talk me out of this, I'm about to trade in my perfectly working original iPad to get a brand new hot iPad Air for 2/3 the price. The deal is only good until November 9 but it's almost too good to pass up. My original iPad is really showing its age, it doesn't run any new apps and Apple hasn't supported it with software updates for a year now, and it's running the same processor as the iPhone 4. If I upgrade I'll be saddled with this new iPad for all my mobile computing for the next three-four years, but I do have a lot of time and money invested in the iOS ecosystem. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?!

Do what your heart guides you to do...UPGRADE!  :)

That new iPad AIR is sweet.  I am on the fence about turning in our perfectly good iPad 2....  get thee behind me Satan!

Argument for upgrading:

my current iPad has:

no camera
crappy iPhone 4 processor, slow as dirt
half the RAM of the new iPad
no productivity apps (iWork suite comes free with new iPad)
It crashes almost every time I try to use the browser
It isn't supported by Apple anymore, runs iOS 5. something
It doesn't work with any new apps

Argument against upgrading:

current iPad still works great for what I use it for most...watching movies, TV, reading books and comics
I am broke as a joke, spending $400 bucks on a luxury item is idiotic for me and my family right now (but it will pretty much always be this way)
I really would like to exit the Apple ecosystem and get a mobile device or laptop that can run Steam and Windows Apps (especially WoW) but those cost more than I can spend at this time

WHAT DO DO WHAT TO DO

If you dont have the xtra scratch - I wouldn't upgrade.  I only wish they had included the fingerprint system on the new iPad.  The display will make all your shows that much nicer as well.
Pity you have to turn in the older one, or you could give it to the kids - but the $'s saved ...

The older kids both have Kindle Fire's so they are cool as far as tablets go.  I'll see about the financing, I doubt it though.  I happen to have the extra money now but it could definitely be better spent on necessities.

I also own a first gen iPad that is BARELY working, I think I need to trade up! Jamie has taken over my iPad 2. Actually with an additional $25 gift card I can get a Mini for $75!

Rico

That's certainly a good deal for a first gen iPad.  Heck, I almost want to do it and I have an iPad 2.

Jobydrone

Yeah I'm seeing on Craigslist my gen ipad generally sells for 100-120 so a 200 card is a great trade

I was holding on to my gen. 1 for Jensen but at this rate, it will be inoperable in a few years with no software support. Instead for $75 I can get a mini and let him play with it at that price point.

Wow. This thing is incredible. I haven't actually held one in my hands until I opened the box...it's so much lighter. The Air is an apt name for sure.

The Air is a very light device and also very fragile. If you have not done so already I would advise buying a "protection" plan from Squaretrade Warranty. I bought a three year plan for my new Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014 tablet for only $140.00. If you go to their Facebook page and sign up for their newsletter they will send you an email with a 30% off code. That's how I got it so cheap because it would usually run around $170.00. Peace of mind for three years is worth it to me. Just be sure that when you register it on their website (after paying of course) that you follow all the prompts and email them a scanned copy of your receipt. I had considered getting the new Ipad but ultimately the new Samsung won out because I just prefer Android's OS and also owning a Samsung Galaxy S4 already it made compatability an easier factor for me. The Air is a really nice speedy tablet though with a beautiful display. Enjoy your new Ipad!

Joby did you wipe all your data, etc. on your trade in iPad before giving it to Target?

Bryancd

I just wiped my iPad and taking it in today. I just deleted all the aps, cleared all the iCloud backups, all my saved e-mail contacts, ect.
