I'm not surprised it isn't making huge bucks. Lack of marketing and the fact it is quite a niche concept. I love the Japanese mega monster / transformers stuff so I'm sure I will like it.

Wow, just got back from Pacific Rim. Really disappointed. I can't for the life of me figure out how they got this wrong. The story had some interesting opportunities, especially the whole drift thing, that just never went anywhere. All the character moments lacked any emotion or impact as they were never "earned", they were just thrown in and it is assumed we have a connection to these people. And what is with all the running around to deliver information, did the Kaiju eat all the cell phones?! I did like Charlie Day but I am a "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" fan. Even the fights, though visually stunning, got boring and because they insist on hiding CGI warts by staging them at night, in the rain, and under water, I found them a bit muddled. I was so sure this would be a great one and figured the negative reviews and online comments had to be wrong. Unfortunately they were not and now I see why the US box office is so weak. The movie just isn't that strong.

Into Darkness is a masterpiece next to this.

We pretty much agree on this one Bryan.  I might have enjoyed it a bit more than you.  My biggest problem were all the cliche's in the film - especially the characters.  It had some fun moments, but in the end pretty weak overall.

I had fun, I don't want to come across too negative, but I was REALLY excited for this one. I love monster movies like Godzilla although I am kind of ambivalent towards the giant robot thing, Transformers came out when I was too old. I hate to say it, but I am glad Del Torro didn't direct The Hobbitt.
