Fox has announced that the sequel to ID4 (lol) will be released in July of 2015. No word on who's gonna be in it, but if they waited one more year it would be the 20th Anniversary of the original. I can't believe its been 17 yrs since that came out, ST:FC was in the same year. No word yet if Will Smith will be on board to welcome invaders to Erf.

The first film was always just ok for me.  I wasn't a huge fan of it like some people.  But I'd still be up for seeing a sequel.

I admit the first one is a guilty pleasure for me. I totally loved it when it came out, in theaters it was a real spectacle at the time. It's aged well, I think it balances being fun and exciting while also being in on the joke that parts are goofy. The movie and all the actors never take themselves to seriously and that works great.

Will Smith is around 45 and still fit.
It would be a shame if he didn't star in the remake.

The original is an interestingly American view of the world. I last watched it in the Accident and Emergency waiting room of the local hospital a few years ago. That was a loooong day.

I'm not sure how good a sequel is likely to be since the impact of the original was very much the setting etc. I think it may be hard to recapture that a second time although the length of time since the original is on their side.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Wonder what landmarks they'll be blowing up in this one!

Sweet. I was 15 when ID came out: probably the perfect watching age for that material. :)
As a result, I have very fond memories. Will def watch the new one.

Agreed, the movie was an American stylized live action cartoon. Full of stereotypes and outrageous fun.

I'd like to see the sequel expand the fun by moving location to Australia or Russia. I want to see what tickles their funny bone.

Maybe Will Smith's character could be called back to duty (drafted) to help out again.

They will have to carry on without him...

Oh well...I wonder if Claudia Black is available :)

If anyone is easily replaced in a role it's that one.  Just bring on a new, better character.  I can think of about 20 actors off the top of my head
