Well, its not the full size working R2 I wanted, but its a start in the right direction. Fresh out of CES the R2D2 Projector.

From Gizmodo.com:

"Star Wars and gadget geeks, you may want to sit down before reading this post. This 1/2 scale remote controlled R2D2 has a projector stashed in his dome, capable of an 80-inch picture. And said controller is shaped like the Millenium Falcon. By the falcon's command, the sassy little droid can be driven forward and back and right down the trash compactor. The remote'll also spin his cute little dome piece around, trigger 11 R2 sounds from the movies. And there's a built in DVD player with stereo speakers, an iPod dock connector, USB and memory card slots, as well as AV inputs. The droid also has safety sensors to make sure you don't drive it down a trash compactor chute, or try to project it at a wall that's too close.

R2 pumps an 800 by 600 resolution image, is as bright as 1000 lumens with a 500:1 contrast ratio. Next up: C3PO surround sound system that does 21.1 channels of jibbajabba in millions of languages."

I tried and tried to find a cost on this... nope, haven't heard.

Anybody want to guess how much this is going to cost?

Yeah I searched for the price also.. but there is nothing. I emailed the company asking when and where it will be released. I'm guessing the cost will be between $500.00 to $1000.00.

This is so cool, an R2 D2 that would look great as a collectible, and alos highly functional. I will be interested to hear what the final price on this will be, I am expecting it will not be cheap.

Price I found out - about $3000.  And it's not even a 1:1 full scale R2-D2.  :(

Geekyfanboy

WOW  :jawdrop that's a little too rich for my blood.. now if he was full scale I would consider it. Oh well it was fun thinking about it while it lasted.

Star Wars:
Leia's Sports Blaster (from Ep IV when she makes her futile escape)
R2-D2
More Yoda lightsabers, esp. a ForceFX saber blade that actually goes back into the hilt (nice try Hasbro, but I don't need my eye poked out; gotta love SWAN)

Star Trek:
Phaser Pistol from TNG/TNG movies/TNG novels
Pike's Enterprise
Klingon Bat'leth
Translator that actually translates speech instead of just looking cool

BJ
Love Star Trek TOS & TNG (never really got into DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise).  Also love Star Wars (everything save for the prequels...), and Indiana Jones, and ElfQuest, basically anything remotely SF or fantasy is my bag, tho I tend more towards SF than I do fantasy.

Here is a link to an IGN article on the R2 http://gear.ign.com/articles/754/754184p1.html

This little guy is a bit out of my price range, but I think he is way cooler then that Apple phone everyone has been talking about the past few days

moyer777

Man, I wish it was a better price.  Oh well.

I can still dream, and pray a lot!

How about a build your own lightsaber in which you put in couloured crystals to change the blade colour. And a Next gen Phaser rifle

Jen

oooh yeah..I agree Iceman. That would be nice. They have mentioned offering this year what they've called a "Joe Jedi" build your own lightsaber.  :)

MR has made some of those already -> the Leia Blaster (nice item), TNG Phaser, and now a Yoda Force FX lightsaber - just going on sale.
