Movie looks pretty cool.  Coming in March 2012.  Trailer due next week.

Entertainment Weekly has a first look at Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Coming to theaters on March 2nd, the film also stars Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare and Derek Mears.

The movie takes place 15 years after the siblings' incident at the gingerbread house. Arterton explains: "You see a series of flashbacks with their experience of killing that first witch, which is brilliant... The heart of it is that these kids grow up to be bloodthirsty witch hunters."

She added that, while the film is a bit tongue in cheek, "it's also very, very dark, and bloodthirsty and there's a lot of cursing. It's kind of got a [Quentin] Tarantino feel, really."

So what are the characters like in the movie? "Gretel is much more in tune with her spiritual side. Hansel is a typical action hero, cheeky, funny, a womanizer. She's much more of a thinker, intense, internal and bit more open-minded than he is."

Ok we get it. Fairy Tale fantasy genre is popular right now! Lol

Are we going to get a movie for every major fairy take character or what?

This might be a great movie but it just annoys me when the execs start seeing $$$$ and jump on (and crush!) the bandwagon.

In my opinion this is an unfair statement, as these movies can take sometimes years to write, producer, shoot and post. It's not like the execs get together and say.. oh fantasy are hot right now.. let's quickly make a movie. Now I'm not saying that some companies will do that and those movies will suck. But the recent "fairytale" movies all have big actors and have been in production for years.

Fair point but it just seems like they are all coming up in the near future now so this concept must have been doing the rounds at the studios in the near past. Personally I like the concept, we have a couple of great shows out now and I'd love to see quality movies.

I think it's pretty much pure coincidence that we are getting so much fantasy stuff right now.  Kenny is certainly correct that these things take many years to make them happen.  One thing I sometimes think about is the reason between the crazy amount of Sci-Fi and fantasy movies and TV we get now vs. when I was growing up.  I think it basically is people like me who grew up on this stuff and the early movies of Spielberg and Lucas not to mention a certain Great Bird of the Galaxy are now in power positions in Hollywood.  They get to decide what they want to push for and get made.  Which is frankly awesome!

I think what we're seeing is still the wake of "Lost's" massive success and popularity.  It will die down soon enough as the majority of these shows are cancelled and we have nothing to watch again :(

Not quite sure what the TV show "Lost" has to do with this fantasy film or even some of the recent fantasy TV series?  Not really quite the same genre.

Well granted I know nothing about this Hansel and Gretyl show, so I dont know what kind of show it is, but there was definitely a huge surge in general of weird, fantasy, paranormal type programming after Lost hit so big.  Nothing since has captured that level of success so I think that the networks are still looking for that next big event type program. I don't think there's any such thing as coincidence when it comes to the multi billion dollar entertainment industry, which despite the huge amount of people and money involved is still a relatively small, incestuous group.

Oh and I see is is a movie not a TV show so I'm wrong on so many levels heh

Went out to the theater today and saw this with Mark.  Very fun movie I thought.  Just mostly a lot of action, but some fun stuff to watch.  Movie didn't take itself too seriously.  I liked it even more than I thought I would.
