One thing I'm not crazy about is having to use a new dock connector when I get the new phone.  Currently I can switch out the iphone and ipad using the same connector on my iMac.  That wont be the case anymore, I'll have to use up two USB slots, get a splitter, or switch out the cable every time.  PITA.

Why plug them in at all? Wireless syncing is great.

So if you keep your existing phone can you get the same service for a reduced price if you renew your contract?
No

I've never been able to get my wireless syncing to work consistently.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Well I havent actually tried that feature...the way I get stuff on and off my devices is through drag and drop and manually deleting, I don't actually ever sync.

If you enable wireless sync, the device shows as connected in iTunes if it's on the same wifi network as your machine (in iTunes at least).

Hm, so you can still use the "manually manage content" checkbox in iTunes?  I'll have to try it if thats the case.

Well that does explain a lot. We can renegotiate are monthly fee if you choose not to upgrade. Makes it harder to justify the cost when you have an adequate phone.

Yes sir.

I upgraded today to a 4S as my 4 had a blown speaker (crazy) Had great service in the Apple store and i had a great conversation with one of the staff about the 5. They are expecting up to 2000 people to cue up when it comes out, balls to that I said i'll have the 4S lol. I got my upgrade for free, no payment at all bar upgrading my contract to £36 instead of £16.50. Bit extra but i couldnt carry on with a phone that gave out no sound. Two years time that contract will be up, just in time for the 5S lol

Neat!  I will definitely check this out, but I can already see myself forgetting to charge up (generally my iPad is plugged in overnight by my bedside and my phone is in my computer.)

I wifi sync my iPad, but my phone charges via my desktop so I don't bother with that one. Can't charge the iPad via USB anyways.

Thats awesome!  I thought they were going to be charging $99 for the 16Gb 4S.  Were you covered by warranty or something?  Why is your plan going up more than double the cost?

That's the perfect scenario for upgrade. You can't beat Apple for customer service :)

Don't suppose they told you how much the 5 will be on a 2 year contract? :) I expect it will be £100-£200 up front. Another reason why I'm discounting it as an option.

Works great, thanks for the great tip Joe.  Can't believe I haven't tried this before.  I guess its because I thought I was required to sync my whole iTunes media library.
