iPad and iCloud issues

Has anyone else noticed this: creating a document in Pages, or Numbers on your computer, uploading it to the iCloud, then NOT loading on your iOS device? Up until very recently, I would write a script for our podcasts on my iMac, then upload it to Joyce's iCloud, and to mine so we can access them on our iPads (or iPhones). Well, all of a sudden, mine just stopped working. Joyce's still works just fine, but not mine. I tried restoring the iPad, no luck. I did the live chat with Apple last night, and they walked me through deleting the iCloud account from the iPad, putting it back on, deleting Pages off the iPad, putting it back on, but nothing is working. In face, all my documents on the iPad and iPhone now have that dog eared corner with a little arrow, and Pages says "Updating XX Documents", but never completes. The "help" chat suggested I do a a complete restore as new on the iPad but why? And, (may sound stupid) if I don't restore from a backup, how will I get all my stuff back on the iPad? If ANYONE can help, PLEASE!!!

Rico

Not that it's much help - but I don't use or trust "the Cloud."  I do all backup's on my drives locally and sometimes burn important things to disc (like pictures).

I do both personally, run on both the cloud and local backups.  I've had a hardrive completely crash and burn on me, don't trust them THAT much.

Hmm, my suggestion is to go to iCloud.com and download the files, delete them from iCloud, rename and change the files slightly and reupload them, see if that gets iCloud to do it.

Also, dunno if you tried but put the iPad into airplane mode and out, that might also force it and try adding a new document as well and see if that pushes through.

King, no deal on Airplane mode. I've pretty much narrowed the issue to iWorks. I can create a doc on the iPad and iPhone, then check iCloud online and the docs are there. But iCloud's not pushing to the iOS devices. I tried iCal and it works. Frustrating 100%.

So wait, your creating a document in iPad Pages, but its not showing up on iPhone Pages and vice-versa?  (But you can see it on iCloud.com)

Yeah. Ok, the sync seems to be only one way now with iWorks. I can create on the iPad and iPhone and it shows up in iCloud (on the computer). BUT, when I create something on my iMac and upload to the iCloud, it will not "push" out to the devices...

Hmm, my only suggestion is to maybe wait a day, see if the issue clears up.  Because clearly iCloud is still working if you can upload a document from your device to iCloud.com.  Something must be interfering with the downloading of documents and the only thing I can think of is renaming the document or waiting.

No idea if this works but here's something to try (though they mention you may lose all your iCloud docs if something goes wrong):

QuoteThe good news here is that iWork documents moved from the Mac to iCloud, as well as iWork documents created on iOS devices and synced to iCloud, will sync perfectly among all your iOS devices. At least they should. If you find that this is not happening, try turning off—and then back on—Documents & Data in Settings -> iCloud on each iOS device. If that doesn't work, as a last resort, delete your iCloud account from your iOS devices and re-add the account to each device. See this Apple Support thread for more details.

and here's the support thread they refer to: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16456611#16456611

This has been going on for a couple of days. I've created several docs, all different names. Going to the Apple Store in a bit, maybe someone there can offer a solution. I hope!! :)

I stopped using iCloud about 5 minutes after it launched. Think it has some maturing to do still.

I know it's not ideal but what about DropBox as an alternative?

QuadShot

If I can't get iCloud sync to fix, I'll just do what we did before: email the docs to myself. But it just steams me that no one, including Apple support, knows how to fix this issue. WTF?!! FAIL (to use Tim's vernacular!)

Oh I think the cloud is a pretty good idea, if executed properly.
