Covering this classic monster movie from 1956 today on the podcast.  I talk about the original Japanese "Gojira" film too.  Some TV & Trek talk and some comments from some of you too.  Enjoy the podcast everyone!

Great podcast, Rico!  I listened to it earlier today to while cleaning.   Like you Rico, I too watched a lot of Godzilla movies as a youth.  It was on almost every Saturday afternoon.  Thank you for bringing back some fond memories.

Rick, I loved your cover of Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult.

Another song by the master!  :)

Great show..
Once again.. Art is a great way to speak on social commentary. Much like Roddenberry did with Trek.. the creators of Godzilla managed to address the issues of the time..  which for Japan (at the time) was with the USA and its testing of A-bombs in the Pacific (and all related fears) through the medium of Sci/Fi.

I also thought the film had a great theme.. but it really gets short changed in the American Version. Here's a nice clip of Godzilla's Theme for your enjoyment
Godzilla 50 years tribute!

Finished listening to this yesterday and I will admit I don't think I have ever seen the 1st one. Most of the Godzilla I remember were in color and he was always fighting against another monster. I do remember my brother and I enjoying them but that was a long time ago. I will need to catch these again.
Good job as always Rico and I liked it when you wrestled those Japanese names. It sounded like you said them right to me.  :D
And Rick great song as always, and what is it about parents not liking their kids playing with fire. So you set some cardboard building on fire. So I started a fire in the woods with my brother and 2 neighbor boys. At least we did it at the edge of the woods. Boy, did we get in trouble for that!!!! The other neighbor did set the woods on fire when he was burning brush. It got going pretty good and we thought we were going to have to leave the house but it was contained thanks to the local volunteer fire dept. Those folks have a tough job!

My best friend and I watched so many of those other movies, we just loved watching the cheesy Godzilla films too. I've seen most of them I think, but we did first see the original somehow even though not on purpose. It's the first one I remember seeing. We loved it all so much. I've got an old like 18 inch Godzilla figure back home. Found it at a Goodwill I think. We were serious big fans.

Hi Rico, just finished listing to the Godzilla podcast.  good podcast as usual.  I definitely remember seeing the Raymond burr version when I was a kid first watching it on cable TV.  I do not think i have seen the original version but it is possible I have and simply do not remember it. but what I did enjoy was watching the 60's color movies that had Godzilla fight some other monster or alien or what ever his opent was.  I have enjoyed Japanese monster movies since I was a kid, epically the ones that were directed by Honda but did not feather Godzilla.  I have a few of them on DVD in my collection.
I am going with the best information that I have.

This was a good show. My ex-wife was a HUGE Godzilla fan and I can honestly say the first big dollar purchase for collectible that I made was getting her a huge Godzilla and Space Godzilla collectible in addition to every single one of the Action figures they were selling in the late 90's. I had more Godzilla in the house than Trek and Wars combined.

Rick M's  version of GO GO Godzilla was cool.  I have heard the song played before but I didn't know it was blue orster cult.

Hey Rico!

Trying to remember if it was this podcast or another podcast that you discussed this. I was listening to you talk about the secondary characters on Star Trek and how they should have had more time on the show. Something like that...Anyway all I could think of was Reginald Barclay. He was one of those non-main characters who sort of became a main character. I always enjoyed seeing him on TNG and then later on Voyager, not to mention his brief role on First Contact. I liked his personality and when the episode would focus on him. I really liked the one where he was super smart! That was a great episode. Have you ever devoted a podcast to Barclay? You could do a clip show from all the episodes he was on. He also did some work with Alien Voices when Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie did their production. He's also gone on to do some video game voice work as well.

Just thought I would drop my two sense about Broccoli (oops!) I meant Barclay.

I enjoyed the Godzilla podcast. I have only seen bits and pieces of the movies but I've never seen a full movie. I'll have to check it out sometime. Didn't they have a Godzilla vs King Kong at some point?

Great song Rick Moyer! You are always so talented. I didn't realized that Blue Oyster Cult did a tribute to Godzilla. I've only heard "Don't Fear the Reaper," and "Burnin' for you." Loved "Don't Fear the Reaper," at the beginning of Stephen King's "The Stand." Very cool!

Take Care!
