When you dock it to your computer, does iTunes still do the local backup even if you have iCloud active?

Not sure.  I picked "My Computer" for backing the device up and iCloud for just storage of files/content.

billybob476

Yeah I may change that back, I'd rather have it local.

Dangelus

I think you can do both.

Rico

I thought it was a heck of a lot of data to back up the entire iPad to the "Cloud."

Oh - does accessing data via iCloud if you use an iPhone on 3g count against your data plan?  I'm guessing it does.

billybob476

Yes, I set it to only sync on wifi.

Well I don't have a lot of media stored on my iPad but it took up a good 1gb+ of my 5gb. The good thing is after the initial backup it will only backup the changes so unless you add tons of data to you device day in day out then this shouldn't take long at all.

When I said data, I really meant Apps.  Apps take up a lot of room.  At least some of the ones I have.

Dangelus

Yeah most of my data is apps. I guess if you a lot of apps I would disable the backup of apps as these are easily retrieved from the app store for free.

billybob476

I have about 900 photos on my phone, that plus app data put my backup around 2 gigs.

KingIsaacLinksr

For some reason it takes minimum of 1GB to back up your device.  Not entirely sure

Lol probably.  But based on how much my apps are using, I have doubts I'll hit the limit. I have over 100 apps last I checked!

It's the photo stream that'll get ya. Especially with the higher rez camera on the 4S.

I read there's currently no way to delete individual photos from the photo stream, making things a bit inconvenient just in case you've "accidently" taken a compromising picture or two that you don't want automatically downloaded to all your devices.  That's a bit of a deal breaker for me...service going "off" until they post a fix for that
