Main page - new look (10/21)

Want some opinions on the new look on the main page. I was messing around with Joomla this morning and found a pretty nice template. I think it's a bit easier and clearer than the old look. Let me know what you all think of it. Opinions are most welcome. Also, post here if anything seems to be not working right. Thanks gang! :Bow:

The new site is nice, I like the colors.. but I really liked the LCARS template, gave it that extra special Star Trek look.

Yeah, I'm undecided right now. I'm really trying to learn how to make my own custom template. May end up going back to the LCARS. It's just a quick switch in the menu options.

LCARS is cool but overused and unoriginal, and I think better suited for the Star Trek official site. I like the new look better, but would suggest that the Spock with Ipod logo be prominently featured when you first come to the page, possibly even on a splash page with a portal you click to enter the site. I know this extra step turns off alot of people that visit often, but it is such an original, eyecatching logo that you should take advantage of it, especially for people that may be new to the site. I'd at least use it somewhere at the top of the main page. Otherwise I like the new design alot.

I like the New Page look. The LCARS was great as well, but I find simpler pages laid out nice like this one, are able to get the information and point across. At times I felt the LCARS layout to be very busy, and pulled away from the content on the page. It certainly is very good, and you are doing an execellent Job on this site.

Nice, Rico, just what I envisioned. I like especially that the new look of the page has a "blog" kind of feel to it, which should serve you well considering the explosive popularity of blogs on the net these days.

One other small suggestion I would offer is to put a link to the main page somewhere near the top of the main page of the forums. I know it's a small thing, but I find myself going from the forums to the main page quite often during my surfing and it's a little bit annoying to have to go into my favorites.

Hey Rico, at first I thought "Wheres LCARS"? but I soon realised that the website is easier to understand. Jobydrone makes a very good point about putting a link to the homepage. I often have to have two windows open and a link wold make it that much easier. Also, Spock seemed to be holding a lightsaber intermittently. I feel that your original design with Spock holding an ipod was such a good one that adding anything else was overcrowding it slightly. These are only minor niggles and on the whole, nice job Fleet Admiral. P.S. love the clock on the home page. It shows my local time. ;D

What's the origin of the Spock logo? I think I heard on one of the early podcasts that a buddy of yours did it, Rico. But I can't remember...

The Spock holding the iPOD logo was a piece of art I had requested done for me. I came up with the concept and had Len over at Jawbone Radio (a great podcast & artist) do the art for it.

It's a nice look and easier to read. I like the analog clock there. . . it looks like a face.

Thanks for the link to the homepage Rico. Its only a small addition but it really makes all the difference. Its also great that it opens another window rather that replacing the existing one. Good work :Bow:
