Have you, and if so what was it like? Lately I've been very interested in this phenomenon so I'm just trying to see how many people have experienced one. I personally haven't but I'm trying very hard to induce one

Only after one of Darren's Warp Core Breaches at the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas.
It was an out of body projection - but not astral.
Bleah!

When I was 17 or so, I got really drunk at homecoming and we went out to dinner. I saw myself eating as I floated above the table and other assorted weirdness. It might have been the drinking except I knew certain details of undergarments of the girls we were with after floating into the bathroom.

Very interesting question!  I'm not sure how much I really believe in this stuff, but I did have a relevant experience when I was a freshman in college.  I had become fascinated with the phenomenon of astral projection and lucid dreaming and did alot of research on them both.  I read several books and purchased some cassette tapes that were supposed to attune your mind and body towards being able to astrally project and lucid dream.  Well I listened to these tapes, both while I was awake and asleep, for several months, and I truly believe they had an effect.  I was taking a Yoga class for gym credit at college, and one day during a relaxation/meditation exercise, I felt myself completely enveloped by a bright, white light and felt myself physically start to float.  My whole body jerked and felt like an electric shock went through me and I bolted upright.  In retrospect it's possible I wasn't ready or was afraid and the shock was my soul or spirit or whatever returning to my body.  The whole experience lasted less than two seconds.  I never really felt the desire to try this again, maybe someday.  Of course it's also possible I partied too hard the night before, and fell asleep during Yoga class and dreamed the whole thing.  Dunno, it felt darned real to me.

I think part of why I became afraid is alot of the reading I did about astral projection was very adamant about how dangerous it could be if taken lightly.  Malevolent spirits, loss of psyche, getting lost and not being able to return, all kinds of bad things can happen.  A great scary movie came out about astral projection recently, called Insidious.  I was impressed by how alot of the details of that film were true to what I read about all those years ago...a great flick if you like scary movies that don't rely on serial killers and gruesome murders for scares.

Oh, ok....so, when you went out for dinner, was it a pizza place? Did the pizza's have funny little mushrooms on them? And just what the heck was your astral-self doing in the LADIES ROOM? Hmmm??? :) "It might have been the drinking..." YA' THINK? :p

I read a fascinating book on this years ago, it was after reading about Professor X doing Astral projection and i wanted to know what it was. Some of the people in the book gave quite deatailed descriptions of how they did it. Alas the title escapes me sorry.

Well, the funny thing is that it was lots of vodka. At some point, I started searching every girl in the stadium for Skittles and finally found some. Oddly enough it was another girl not my date that provided them ... we dated later, but the place we ate at was a mexican place in Texas where I could score drinks.

Note: I was a very bad kid growing up in some ways, but I was a virtual angel to my parents. I worked hard and did what it took to succeed in school and work, but I played hard and had no curfew when I wasn't at work or in school. It is not something that I in any way, shape, or form condone. Underage drinking is bad.

I don't believe I've ever had an out-of-body experience...I have had some really strange dreams but that's about it.

And now X has totally shattered his image of what I figured him to be ;)  (jk)

Well, you start by marrying two Eastern European people, then they fall in love, make a baby, and BOOM! You've got a Pol :)

Oh Al, if you weren't around, the forums would be a more boring place.  ;)

To answer your question, you have to create a new poll which is next to "create topic" button.  I'm sure there is another way.

A few years ago I collapsed and stopped breathing at my local hospital...lucky for me!  The only thing I remember of the day is having a sensation of flying through the clouds, thinking I was ready to move on now, but I must say goodbye to those I love.  There was no fear, but it was so natural...that is all I remember Until I woke up in hospital!!
